🧵Under the National Labor Relations Act, workers have a right to talk to each other about their wages and other working conditions. This can be a vital first step to acting with coworkers to make a workplace fairer—and to organize a union. Workers also have a right under the NLRA to talk with those who may help them improve their working conditions; this includes labor unions, the NLRB and other government agencies, the media, and civil rights organizations. Workplace rules that prohibit employees from talking to each other or third parties about wages or other working conditions seriously discourage employees’ rights to organize and are illegal under the NLRA. Sometimes these work rules don’t directly say that employees can’t talk to one another or third parties about working conditions but are so confusing or so broadly written that workers may not do so out of fear of breaking a rule.…
Here’s the deal. I left retail years ago to get away from the culture of my life having to revolve around my work. I.e. working nights, weekends, and holidays. And being told by bosses to bug my friends and family to come buy from us, or come in a fill out a credit card app. (Jewelry stores are some of the worst when it comes to this nonsense.) I got into the insurance industry. Not as a sales person. But a CSR. Which means, I service current clients. I do not produce, I do not sell. Other than cross-selling to the occasional existing client, I do not go out of my way to sell insurance. Because it’s not what I was hired for. My job is to help people. It’s what I like about insurance. Helping people. On the contrary, I don’t like selling. My boss knows this and hired…

Some building and preamble to set the details for my story. I feel it suits this sub; I'm somewhat lucky to be in a position where I make a passive income (I know, hang me at the gallows etc…) So I make enough to have a pretty comfortable if somewhat frugal life doing exactly nothing. My background is in numbers, but I'm strong at adapting to roles within or relating to the field. I have no formal qualifications other than my meaningless high school grades (secondary school here in the UK) and so my capabilities are all derived from my own effort and my work history over several decades. For a while I worked as a data analyst with a local company, this situation was fine until the company moved in a direction I had no desire to follow. We parted ways amicably, but without this secondary income, I found…
My job has been over working every one for the last 2 years, and recently people have been leaving for jobs with a better work life balance. I've got another job lined up to start on the 21st, I was planning on giving my job 2 weeks just to be nice but tonight they told me last minute I'm forced to stay an extra 4 hours. Im staying and not coming back and I'm not telling them.
Am I crazy, or does this scream, “I run a prison”, if I analyze that statement. Maybe the owner should just change the LLC name to Shawshank and update his title to Warden if you're gonna have that kind of mentality regarding your inmates. I mean employees. Chaps my ass even 2 years of diligent work isn't nearly enough time-served before you can start trying to enjoy any parole time. I mean vacation days. Bonus statement from my supervisor: “It feels like you have the Monday Blues sometimes” hahaha Might as well just call this place Shawshank (Office) Space.
Welcome to the second soviet Russia
I have been at the same job for going in 11 years. It’s absolutely horrible. I found another job in the same industry that would have paid me so much better and been life changing but they asked for a hair drug test. I can absolutely pass a urine test but likely not a hair one. This isn’t a job that requires heavy machinery or driving or really any reason to make sure you don’t occasionally smoke some pot. I have been in this same industry 15 years with never having had a drug test. I’m just sad. I feel defeated. I’m so good at what I do and love what I do. I just can’t do it at my current place anymore.
