CEO of the Year.

Since finding this board I have decided to post about my CEO and see what you all think. I'll start by providing stories of their advance level of playing the CEO. We have one employee who is allowed to bring his dog to work. The dog is very well behaved but sheds and scratches up the floor. It will always come over and say hi when you go into this person's office rendering it impossible to have a meeting in there. However, no big deal. It's a medium size mut that has some lab in it for sizing. Last week my yorkie poo was feeling very sick. We had to take the dog to the vet. So I decided to bring the dog with me to work for a couple days. The dog is very small and doesn't bother anyone or do anything. It just sits in my office in…

I work a part time job, low hours, and I feel guilty for not working longer shifts.

I work at a warehouse, it pays pretty good, and relatively easy work. I’m part time because I’m a full time college student. I only work about 10-15 hours a week and I feel guilty for not working longer shifts and I worry people think less of me. How to let go of this feeling?

I am SICK of this dumpster fire of a store I work in.

I work for a popular pharmacy retail chain. My store manager makes the time unbearable. Her management style is essentially how she bullied people during her school years. Which she loves to brag about to IDK assert dominance? My store is currently dozens of resets behind, at least three trucks behind AND a revolving door of employees. I gave it all I could. I spoke to fellow employees to gather their thoughts of how they are treated. All of them are unhappy. I spoke to my district manager but of course nothing was done. My last and final straw was when I found out new hires are making $3 more than me an hour. Naturally, I confronted my manager and told my fellow employees. I have in an email my manager stating she asked me not to discuss pay. (illegal) She also blatantly made fun of my mental health issues.…

Escaping natural foods retail

Just quit as a grocery manager for Sprouts Farmers Market for the second time! I will never go back to retail especially food retail. I quit a few years ago mostly due to low pay and understaffing. Corporate at the time didn't help. They had more corporate personnel than store people. Loved the people I worked with, even the GM and I ( we started off pretty rocky) realized we were taking out our stresses from corporate on each other and built a good working relationship. But about a year ago a business venture fell through and I found myself returning to my old position. Most of the people I knew had moved on including the GM. But a few stayed. With COVID I was able to negotiate a good salary and got assurances in writing that my department would be fully staffed to the best of the GM's abilities.…

Inflation is dispossessing workers. So how did it start?

By becoming aware of your exploitation you have begun to understand yourselves which is good. However, to beat an enemy you also need to understand him first and that he has many ways to mess with you, some less obvious than others. Inflation is one of these ways, as it is to some extent a tax for the poor. So time to get financially literate. You may think it is “corporate greed” that is the cause of inflation (and yes, it surely plays a role to speed it up at the moment), some may see also other reasons (there are many reasons that have an effect on it). However what is the “root cause” that set things in motion some time ago (as things do happen for reasons)? I am here to cast a light on this issue, as it is often forgotten because humans are bad at capturing long…

Retail is so fucked up these days.

5 months ago I left my old retail job for a number of reasons. Crappy managers who constantly changed the goalposts on their most dedicated employees, played clear favorites, and punished us for them not having enough staff. Was there 3 years and every time I looked to move up one rung on the ladder, the goalposts were moved back. The last time I was literally told “You need to be one of the top 3 performers in metrics to be considered.” -.- I worked PART TIME. How tf was I supposed to compete with people who had been there far longer and had far more hours than I did?? What’s interesting is a few days before I left I was still in the store group message and saw the store manager say “As you all know November-December is the holiday season and our busiest time of the year. As…

Employer made me sign a contract when I started that requires me to repay training costs if I quit less than a year into the job

26 F CA I work at a spray tanning company. I’ve been here now for 6 months. It’s a terrible work environment. My boss takes out my breaks when I know I’m entitled to them legally – I’ve worked OT several times and never been paid a time and a half, and she’s never let me use PTO. She made me (and I get I still chose to do this) sign a contract saying she would take about $500 out of my last paycheck if I left before the year was up. Now I’m leaving and I’m curious if there’s a way out of this? I read in CA it’s illegal to not pay your employees for training – so essentially this would be her not paying me. Is that right? Or is there something I’m missing? Also looking for the best way to end this as I need to…

Just won a company contest I didn’t know I was in…

And the reward was absolutely nothing. For context, I'm a baker at a large chain restaurant. My boss called me on my shift to tell me about a contest all the stores have where they'll submit pictures of the product to corporate and they pick out the best looking ones that closest meet corporate standards. My boss submitted my work and I was told it was the best out of all the other stores and I made my store look good! “But there's no prize except, I guess, pride” no raise, no bonus, but hey! I'm happy to be acknowledged! I can pay my bills with pride, right? Not as bad as some other stories on here, just mildly infuriating.
