I just have to say I don’t understand the need for it, join the union or don’t but don’t insult those on the opposing side especially if they’re trying to improve the work place for everyone not just them selves. Needless to say the group of guys he said it were very pissed off at him and straight told him to shut up because he’s talking bs and doesn’t understand the goals of a union.
He explained that his father's company (that he was VP of) was experiencing difficulties with their software being slow due to an ever expanding database of information. Upon inspection, I discovered their database was a mess and their software was garbage. I explained that I would build a new app and rebuild the database from scratch. I did this all the while having a full-time job at a dealership. I should also add that it was “tire season” at the time. This is the time of the year is when we swap winter tires for summer tires. This happened roughly 10 years ago. I was just a young teen and had a fairly size-able lawn mowing business. I took on a new client who only wanted me to weed-eat (weed-whack or however you all call trimming the edge of yards next to fences or trees wherever you are from) around his yard, not mowing. Makes sense, weed-eating is the worst part of mowing IMO so I gave him a quote for roughly 30% of what I would normally charge for the full mowing service. He accepted and everything went well for a few months. Then one day I went to his house to get a check for the past few weeks, and his wife pays with no issue. I love my actual job and my clients, but my companies management all suck. I’m pretty independent and do my work, keep my head down, get paid well and everyone leaves me alone so I’m happy. One of my coworkers been around for a few years, and was expecting his promotion because it’s time. He got it. Without a raise…..usually with that promotion is a 10% raise. And they gave him zero because they’re trying to control budget even though we’ve never been more profitable. What kind of idiot management does that. He was super upset obviously, but he took the title so he could look at other jobs. He found one. Then he quit. On the spot without giving his two weeks. I have a sister who works at a local small business. We think the employer has been changing her tickets after the customer has paid and refuses to pay my sister the difference. This information is in the company software. Today my sister confronted her employer through text about it. The employer said she overcharged them [mind u the changing and blaming of the ticket happens frequently]. Anyways, my sister texted back, something along the lines of : okay I might have to contact the board of labor. The employers next text was pick up your things and your fired.
