Exhausted Pig Lady

Howdy y’all! I work for a commercial hog farm. I was transferred last month, with no warning, to a farm an hour away from my home. Between the demon manager, the work, and the drive, I’ve had a complete relapse in my mental health. Nervous tics I had as a toddler are coming back, I black out on the highway sometimes, running off the shoulder, and all I can think about is sleep, both because I am exhausted and because I can pretty well lucid dream, so I can choose to be somewhere else when I’m dreaming. I want to quit so bad, but I can’t do that to the pigs I oversee. The management at that farm is horrific, and I am the only person in the barn taking proactive care of the girls. I want to report to the production manager, who I know to be a good…

Anyone move from bank branch worker to headquarters?

This is for a friend, works in bank, will likely get promoted to branch manager, but sees not much above that. Is it pretty much the headquarters hires from the colleges they or their buddies went to and the branch people are stuck there? Branch work is the retail of banking, Saturdays, scheduled screwed around with, etc.

Would you take a pay cut?

There is a job opportunity, and it is the job you've wanted. However, you would need to take a pay cut by %15 of what you are currently making. You will be working the same amount of hours per week, same benefits, and the same distance to commute. You are not too fond of your current job, but it pays well. What would you do?

Denied a pay rise I was told I was getting

So recently, I was told by my boss that I was getting a pay rise. Not too much more than I was getting but the money adds up. He showed me a table showing how much an employee of my level (and time at the company) would be getting. The company itself is now refusing to pay me that much, despite there being documented evidence that that is what I am entitled to. This is a document sent out by the higher ups to store managers regarding employee pay. So I am fully aware of how much they were willing to pay me, it feels like an insult that they would secretly go back on that. I say secretly because this isn't a document I was really supposed to see, my manager is just luckily very transparent with our staff team. The company is DRAMATICALLY increasing the prices of everything…

Tried to give two weeks notice…

So I work for a large healthcare corporation as a physical therapist. I noticed that a lot of the emphasis was on money made rather than patient care, and was getting tired of having to make decisions that went against my better judgement solely for the purpose of bringing in more money. I didn’t want to burn any bridges with quitting so I looked on my company’s website at our handbook, which said that all clinicians need to give two weeks notice, whereas people in managerial positions need to give more in order to allow time to train their replacement. Cool, understandable. I give my two weeks notice, and am told I’m required to give four weeks. I said that I looked at the handbook that’s online for employees and that it says two. “Well, that’s not the updated handbook” I’m told. My boss’s boss then schedules a meeting with…

Crazy Friday….

I was due to start working a new temporary contractor job on Monday with a company through a staffing agency. The agency sent over a contract to sign, in addition to normal legalese, the first clause on the contract stated that employees weren't allowed to discuss wages with other employees. Now, I'm currently taking an Employment Law class as I get my Bachelor's Degree, and I've been part of this sub long enough to know that policies preventing employees from talking about wages are against the law. Well, I emailed them back last night saying I do not feel comfortable signing a document that by its very nature is illegal. Well, by noon today I still hadn't gotten a response, so I forwarded the email to another employee I'd been working with. His reply was ” Thanks for forwarding this to me as I had not seen it yet.  I…
