Wrote this sometime back in my journal, thought you guys might find it interesting and worthwhile. TL;DR : All human beings have different priorities and we’ll always have people who are driven purely by the desire to power. We cannot escape that, but we need to decide what all things we can allow people to play their power game on. Humans don’t have to compete for the basic resources in the modern world, we are way past that. But we cannot have absolute equality as well in this world, we can only ensure a decent quality of life for everyone. So, I worked 3 years at one org where I busted my ass, went above and beyond my job description, got two awards, and then found out I was making 10k less than my counterparts. I worked in a different department, but same role. Invited by the VP of the division I worked half of my role with, to apply for an open position that was a step up. Understandably, it was a stretch and didn't get it. Left to work at a different org 6 months ago, for a step up in pay. Same VP reaches out a few weeks ago with a similar position but more in my wheelhouse. I'm a sure fit for it, a good step for my career and another bump in pay. An internal person also applies. She didn't prepare for the interview, doesn't have any project management experience, and while nice, is…not well…

I want a remote job but I want one of those jobs where people say how little work they do when working remote. I hear people talk about how they can finish a 8 hour day in 3 hours and still paid full time. I know you won't have much free time working at a call center so I will be avoiding those. I am thinking of applying to other jobs like: data entry, accounting, virtual assistant, email customer support, or some help desk jobs. Which of these or others that can be done remotely give you the least amount of work?

Some important info to note before I start: I work for a trucking company. I unload trailers, fix/restack freight, and deliver that freight to different trailers. We are one of the largest docks in our company, with over 200 total doors to receive and send out trailers. There are hundreds of people that do my same job. At any given time, we may have anywhere between 30-40 dock workers moving freight from trailer to trailer. I work the midnight shift. This is the shift where most new hires start out, before eventually moving to morning or afternoon shifts. The reason most new hires start here is because prior to posting a position online, they post a sign up sheet for it when one opens up. Started a new job about a month ago, and ever since I have just not been feeling it. I'm bored all the time, my values don't quite line up with the company's/my supervisors, I dread coming in each day, the pay is just okay, I have no interest in what we're doing and feel apathetic all day. My dad says I should stick it out, these feelings are normal when you just start a new job plus it's better than the alternative of not having a job. But I just feel like, in my gut, that this isn't the right place for me. I have money saved up and live at home with my folks, so that isn't much of an issue. I just don't know what to do. If you read my last post you’d have some back story as to why I’m suing Providence (defamation, personal damages, and soon-to-be wrongful termination), but that’s all besides the point. My fiancé is 8 months pregnant and we went in for our 36 week check up this last Monday. Everything was going fine until her OB measured her cute ass bump and noticed that it was smaller than it should be. The OB checked and rechecked to compare it to her last pregnancy, and then we had a quick ultrasound to check on baby and make sure they’re still alive and well. The baby appeared fine but her OB was visibly worried and requested that she be seen ASAP at one of my old clinics (High Risk Pregnancy, formerly Maternal Fetal Medicine) for a growth ultrasound with dopplers (to check on blood flow).
