My friend was on start up probation nearing the end. Boss: “You're not performing as well as your peers. Increase performance or we may have to let you go at the end of your probation” Friend: “I've been here 2 months; they've been here 3-6 years” Boss: “Doesn't matter. Same pay band” So my friend, now with stress of losing his job, figured there was no way he could make the boss happy, so he found a new job. He gave his notice and the boss brought him into a 5pm meeting that went to 7:30 pm (at the office). Boss: “Why you do this? Now I have to train someone new” Friend: “????” I'll share this with him and ask if he wants to make any edits.
I have no idea how to feel about this
They think you are cattle. For fuck’s sake, find your anger.
I worked at a museum for almost a year. Started as their equivalent of a security guard and got trained in other areas (working with school groups, special events, etc.). After a while, I was the go-to lead for special events. When a new job as a “Facility Rental Manager” opened up, I was encouraged to apply. I had previously applied for another position within the museum (one I was more than qualified for) but was denied in favor of bringing in a new face. I applied for the manager job because I was under the impression that it was basically the same as what I was already doing just with full time hours, benefits, and big pay raise. Found out minutes after my “interview” they had already hired a new person from outside the museum for the job. My “interview” was basically just assuring me that they appreciated me…
Office Culture…
My coworker was an extremely hard worker and a great motivator. He managed a small team of entry-level IT professionals and made an enormous impact on the organization over the last several months. One slip-up by a staff member on his team resulted in his termination. My boss opted for the “make an example of him” route and called a big meeting in the early hours of the morning to chew him out and fire him in front of everyone else. This is a contract position, and as a result of my bosses' actions, 4 other staff members put in their two weeks today, with one quitting on the spot. The contracting agency has sided with my coworker, and they're investigating my bosses' actions. Luckily, the group cohesion within my department is strong, and my coworker has been given a ton of leads/recommendations for other jobs. I'm at the end…
