I've been working in manufacturing my whole adult life. This year after burning out and losing a job I tried looking for a different career path. My one rule was “no factories/plants” I ended up landing a great paying job in a tech company and for the first time in my adult life Im being treated like a human being with a life outside of work! Just an example, my wife was sick on our second month and I decided to try and work from home to take care of the kids. Not only did my boss approve but showed genuine concern. Get out of the factories. No plant will ever treat you like a human being and anyone aspiring to management roles will have their human empathy stamped out of them ( I started as an assembler and worked my way up to engineer manager. Was not a human…
I’m a funeral director working in Ontario and this has started coming up more and more and it’s pissing me off. After meeting with a family to arrange a funeral, the family asks me if they can have an extra death certificate for their son/daughter/grandchild, because their boss is asking for one to give them time off to attend the funeral. A death certificate is a piece of legal paperwork designed to close bank accounts, apply for pensions, etc. it contains private information about the deceased like their SIN, date and place of birth, and place of death. Information your boss has no right seeing. Instead I always write up and sign a letter on our letterhead stating that yes, this person is deceased. As can be confirmed by the obituary on our website. And in the newspaper. And also fuck anyone who tries to make their employee bring in…
More like the theatrics of capitalism
Oh happy day…

Asked to go home around 1 because I just kept jumping up and down to go to the bathroom. I couldn’t eat and I was exhausted. Boss got me out early after I waited for everyone to take breaks (we are short staffed by four people in one of the busiest clinics in my area. I work front desk/call room.) Inform my boss I was diagnosed with a stomach flu and UTI and as long as I was doing better this morning I would come in. Well, I wasn’t. I started running a fever overnight and was up the entire night sick. So I text my boss and told her I don’t think I’d be able to come in especially with the fever, so I was calling out for today. She tells me that a text isn’t good enough and I’d have to call her cell phone. Did I mention…
