Hello, For context, my workplace doesnt really care much as long as shit is getting done just from what I gather from people that have been here for many years. I’ve been known to be a good worker, if a job comes in, expect that shit to get done right away. I’m not one to go look for things to do and screw myself over which I’ve done many times in the past while of course not getting compensated for it. My work involves driving around my city and no one really tracks down what you’re up to unless something is urgent and needs to get fixed right away. Only happend twice in the 2 years I’ve been here. I usually stick around at the office till like lunch hour and go do work (if there’s any) after lunch. If there’s no work, I’ll go straight home and just chill…
Waiting for Interview for 2+ hours?
“Nobody wants to work anymore” Currently been sitting in a zoom waiting room for over 2 hours for a second interview for a remote job at $16 an hour. Really goes to show how much a company will value your time.
TL;DR: Threatened or terminated for discussing unions/wages/working conditions in the US? Don’t tell your employer anything, save as much evidence as possible, and contact your local NLRB office. The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) oversees enforcement of the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), which covers certain worker protections in the United States. Under the NLRA your employer cannot punish or fire you for unionizing/discussing unions, or engaging in ‘protected concerted activity’ (which includes talking to other employees about wages/working conditions). Please note that this protection applies to most workers, but excludes government employees and some other kinds of workers. More details here. If your employer has threatened, punished, or terminated you for discussing these things, or has a general policy forbidding these discussions, you have the right to report it to the NLRB. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER: DO NOT TELL YOUR EMPLOYER WHAT YOU ARE DOING. This only…
Last November I had 9 days off work as I contracted Covid so had to isolate. I wasn't aware at the time but instead of putting it down as off for sickness, she used our system to place me on leave for the 9 days. She didn't ask me if this was what I wanted to do nor inform me that this was what the company does. I only found this out as I'm trying to use leave for a holiday I've booked and was informed when I made the request that I have 0 days left. After some email correspondence my manager asked me 'didn't you have leave in November' I reminded her that this was isolation ( a legal requirement at the time in line with government guidance). I followed this with another question asking if this is company policy to use leave for sick days – using…
People have no sympathy for pets.
A bit random but, I work at a company that has an extremely live to work mentality (I do my best to set down boundaries — won’t see your email past 5:30, text me if it’s urgent and even then there’s no guarantee I can do it, etc.) and recently my cat has had a severe seizure type episode where she attacked her own tail and made it bleed. She’s okay now but as a result I need to make sure she wears an e collar for a week, keep an eye on her and give her medication evenly spaced apart for the anxiety and pain. I asked my boss if it was OK for me to work from home for this week while I do this (my job can easily be done from home because I am HR and mostly support my boss and do paperwork for new hires…
