Hello! This is my first time posting here. I am currently a part time worker at a local mom and pop bakery and I work about 20-21 hours a week while also balancing my college workload. My hours have been getting cut recently and at first it was just a day off every now and then but now I’m barely making half of what I was making before and this is happening to all of my part time coworkers. When one of them asked the owner and manager why she’s cutting hours, she said she wants to prioritize full time workers. The only people that have stayed working at the bakery through Covid have been us part time workers and the full time workers she’s prioritizing are not fully trained (we are expected to train them) and they have very little desire to actually learn. Lovely company email
So I work for a sociopath, like many owners in the restaurant industry, especially in NYC. I contracted covid as a bartender and was unable to work shifts for a week I was scheduled. I was blamed for this (have text messages of him saying I should give up all my shifts and then just work more next week to make up for it and ‘be nice’ to other bartenders). I’ll preface this by saying I’m the only bartender out of 30 who came back to this place after restrictions started lifting and I haven’t taken a shift off for any reason. Anyways, I asked him last week to just put me back on my regular shifts for the following week because I will be better then (few symptoms and just don’t want to spread it). I actually was good to work in the middle of the week, I’m vaxxed,…
Nautical Bowls Saga
My jobs work schedule is absolutely nuts
Background; I just started work about a month ago for a very large plywood supplier in the southern United States. The pay and benefits are pretty good considering the position in life I’m in at this moment but the work schedule is completely insane. I work what’s called the relief shift where my shift works on the corresponding days in which the other shifts are off. Day shifts are Sunday/Monday 7am-3pm, swing shifts are Tuesday/Wednesday 3pm-11pm, and graveyard shift is Thursday/Friday nights 11pm-7am. My ONLY off day is Saturday but I get off at 7am. For the past week I’ve been working 12 hour shifts because of the regular swing shift screwing up and him being moved elsewhere in the plant so everyone that runs that same machine has to make up for his lost time. I’m absolutely exhausted working like this and it showed today. I’ll spare details but…
