I've had so many jobs in my time that were physically terrible. If I wrote out the experiences I've had in my nearly 40 years of employment, most ppl would be shocked and horrified. It's pretty gross if I think about it. I've been working at this job I have now for nearly six months. Passed my probation period with flying colors. Secured health benefits for the first time in years. The pay is better than I'm used to. The shift work & hours (63 hours in a week, 7 days on, 7 days off, 7 nights on, 7 days off) are not easy, but they're tolerable. Possible Discrimination
I work in a big box retail store. Part timers are required to work 24 hours a week but can work up to 40. When the business is slow they will schedule part timers 5 days for 5 hour shifts. For the most part the business is busy and most part timers work 30 to 35 hours, even if they only want 24. The schedule in the break room is public and you see what the are others are working. I've noticed over the past few weeks, that there are about 7 part timers who are working 3 days with 8 hour shifts giving them the 24 hrs they need for the week. I would like to start discussing pay with my coworkers, because my $0.30 “annual” raise is insulting. I've seen threads here where employers threaten to fire for it and claimed it's illegal. What ARE the facts? I want to be informed before I start this.
