Fired for getting sick

Hi. A little bit of context for this post, I'm a 19-yo Brazilian that moved to live in Belgium, spent a whole year learning the language and was set one year back because of wanting to study electricity, which is a technical subject, so I couldn't skip a year. 2022 was supposed to be my last year, but I was certain I couldn't make it in the school I was studying in and since switching schools isn't allowed when you're in the last year of studies here, I chose to skip this year altogether to avoid wasting time. I had gotten a “half time” job at the place I was going to do my internship. All good till there. At first I wanted to work for 3 days a week, make some money and try to study programming by myself, but I was a little greedy and wanted to see…

Please suggest a way forward.

Hi all, Please suggest me what should I do further. I am working as an manager in a small company owned by two individuals and backed by three other staff members who are senior HR, head of research, and other client engagement head. This is a small company of 30-40 employees working at a time. I am manager in operations and working for past 3 years now. I started from bottom level as fresher here and I worked and performed well to get 4 promotions. However, on March 1 I resigned due to following reasons. First I got better offer than here. Secondly, my work was being pointed out by one of the owner of the company. So it was not wrong but in old fashion. I was not able to upgrade cuz I am overworked. I have like 18 projects at moment while other managers have 2-6 at a…

This sub would love the show Severance

I promise this is not some form of backdoor marketing. But the show Severance kinda embodies everything wrong about corporations and capitalism this sub exposes on a daily basis. Essentially the show takes place in a not-so-distant future where employees at some companies undergo a procedure to completely separate themselves mentally from their jobs. When you're at work, you don't know anything about the version of yourself that lives outside of work and vice versa. When characters aren't at work, they have no idea what they do at their jobs or who their coworkers are. Basically the procedure is a perfect way for companies to induce a living NDA. The company never lets employees quit, and the outside version of these characters wouldn't even know if they want to quit. All in all, it's a great satire that embodies everything about this thread and I think you guys would enjoy…

Boss wants return to office, says if there are any issues, talk to him

Covid is over, it's time to get back in the office is what the boss says. He specifically says that we are all working from home fine, our work and productivity are great, but it's time to go back to the office for “collaboration”. One team member just left a few weeks ago (I don't blame him), and my only other team member only comes in once a week and will stay that way. I haven't gotten a raise in my almost two years here. I thought about asking for a raise initially but want to leave ASAP, so decided not to go through the trouble. Today, he asked me if I could pick a day or two more to come in next month and I asked if we could discuss the next time I'm in the office. He responded with saying, I'm not sure what there is to discuss,…

I’ve gone through two lengthy interview processes with two entirely separate employers and BOTH of them have chosen to not fill the positions I was applying for.

If I hear one more person talking about how no one wants to work, I will SCREAM.

Would boycotting large corporations like (walmart & etc) simultaneously force well needed changes for employees?

I'm curious to know if a nationwide boycott against large corporations would force economic changes within the USA? A majority of the country is enslaved to low wages & high rent with poor Healthcare. Do you think boycotting these large corporations would bring well needed change & if so how could this be done simultaneously? We all know that hitting their pockets & making them suffer the way we do daily is the only way to hurt them. After all, they don't have empathy towards human life, money is all they love. What's your opinion?

What is the best job you ever had?

I have hated pretty much every job I ever had. I hate my current job. I'm trying to consider a potential career change, but considering I haven't really gotten much satisfaction from any previous job, it's hard to consider where to aim. So, for whatever reason, community, passion, pay, etc, tell me what is the best job you've ever had.

A small vent about a recent job offer

So I recently graduated and I am currently working in the field that I studied for at the same place where I did an internship, which I'm very content with. The only downside is that it is only for two days a week, though with a good chance to get more hours relatively soon. In the meantime I'm looking for something on the side to pay the bills. I applied at a couple of websites, and I was recently approached by a recruiter for a position as a customer advisor for an insurance company. I worked in customer service before, and although picking up the phone all day wasn't my favorite job, I didn't want to be too picky. The hours were acceptable, the pay was not great (~12$ p/h), but the interview went alright and was pleasant. They asked if I was looking for something long-term and I explained…

My workplace is trying to play games with me

So I put in my two weeks notice on Tuesday this week, told them I can work until April 5th. Now how my job works is we have an app that they update everyday with our jobs for the next day. So on Tuesday evening I noticed they gave me nothing for Wednesday, so Wednesday morning I call them to basically ask “wtf and do you guys need me for the next two weeks”? They proceeded to put me on hold for the next 5 minutes and came back and said they’d call me back later today so I’m like I guess so sure. Whole day goes by no phone call from them. Whatever no biggie. But now they have me scheduled to work today from 2:30-5, when my normal workday starts between 8-9 in the morning. I should just not go right? I shouldn’t bother with these stupid games?
