It is borderline impossible to make appointments to see a doctor, a dentist, a therapist etc when you work eight hours a day five days a week. For example, I wake up at 6:00 and get to work for 7:25. I’m scheduled to work until 3:25 but I rarely get out of the building until 3:45 or later. Most doctors, dentists, therapists etc have appointments up until 5:00, but those spots are almost always filled immediately. The schedules of working people and doctors/dentists/therapists are completely at odds with each other and it’s extremely difficult to find a way to make it work. But, there’s also no good answer because if you make all those people work later into the day or on weekends, that’s taking time away from them being with their families. Just a shifty situation all around.
Someone made an interesting post on this sub and I can’t find it, or maybe I’m using too vague of search keywords. Basically it’s an article which shows a study that found something like (using small figures for simplicity) instead of paying someone $10/HR and giving them a 40 hour work week, pay them $13.30/HR and give them a 30 hour work week instead. You get the same pay check but you’ll be less exerted thus bringing more energy and work ethic to the job. Basically the typical 8 hour shift will be cut down to 6 hours. Happy employee, better results for the company. TLDR: There’s an article that showed a study of how working less hours with higher pay yields better results for the company and keeps employees happy.
antiwork EU / other?
Dont know if it is only me. But seems to be only US issues here and they are all batshit crazy :p compared to the issues we have in the EU. Like if I posted issue here I would get downvoted the whole way out of this sub.
I received a verbal/written offer for a job I was really looking forward to work for. I did my background check and drug test as instructed by the recruiter. It’s been 30 days since I heard anything from the company. I’ve been in contact with the recruiter but they work for corporate and don’t know anything going on at the job site. The only thing they can tell me is that I’m still in the pre hiring process and I would have to call the job on-site. I spent 2 weeks calling the jobs hr department trying to figure out a start date and no one ever picks up. I left messages and emails not a word. Nobody can tell me what’s going on beside they only have 1 person working the hr department. What happened to companies telling you that you didn’t get the job. I’d rather have someone…
I’m a 35F, I live in the south (US) and I’ve worked in administrative positions for the past 15 years. I’ve researched this company, read reviews and all seems to check out… However, I would be lying if I said I didn’t feel some type of way about this. The phone interviewer (a kind, older woman) asked me to bring my driver’s license and social security card to my interview tomorrow to get the ball rolling. I’ve done this on my first day of work but not prior to landing a position. What red flags does this raise for you? Are they desperate? Is this the new normal? Why does this make me uncomfortable? This seems so odd to me.
Today, I walked into work expecting a fairly routine day. I worked in a deli so I was expecting to fry some chicken, slice some meats and cheeses and be done for the day. My manager apparently had different plans. I was standing behind our hot-case, with a full clear view of the front counter where we help customers. My manager came to me and told me to move to a different table to do what I was doing, which was pre-packaged cheese, so that I could “have a better view of the counter” . The table he wanted me to move to was against a wall, the back wall to be specific, blocked on both sides by meat slicers so I couldnt stand in any way except directly facing the back wall. I explained this to him, he then decided to claim I was arguing with him saying “If…
The place I work at will overwork you until it kills you. And then screw you over when you don't give a two week notice because you're too burnt out to continue. We have been understaffed for years. I can't take doing the job of 4 people anymore. Even my manager quit because they overwork the managers and make them work 70+ hours a week because the manager is salaried and it keeps the labor percentage down. These numbers are literally just numbers on a page to them. But to us, it's our day to day life and we're out here breaking our bodies, and ruining our mental health to make money for rich people who wouldn't even know how to do our job…And it's not like I can go to a place that will treat me like a human because I know every place is going to run a…
