HOA President thinks she can buy the “Little People”

Obligatory 'this happened 10 minutes ago' I work in a large condominium housing 80+ units of some full-time and some part-time residents. I am part of the small maintenance team that manages the building and ensures it's safe and clean and everything is working properly. Myself, my supervisor, and my coworker are all enjoying our 1-hour unpaid lunch break, when suddenly the president of the building's HOA comes in and greets us, “Aw, look at you little people in here enjoying your food!” She then proceeds to ask my supervisor to do something that could definitely wait until after the break. He agrees, leaves his wife, who he's having lunch with, and goes to tend to the matter. Maybe I'm overreacting, but a week prior, the HOA president took the three of us to lunch. At the time I thought “oh what a nice gesture.” Now I'm looking at it…

Removing myself from family business

We have been working on a start up for years and haven’t been able to get it off the ground. It is my dad’s idea, his expertise and know how and a result of 40 years in his industry. It is not something I am interested in or excited about. He wants his kids listed as owners so they can carry it into the future and reap the benefits if there are any. The only thing it’s brought me is anxiety. I hate even talking about the business anymore because it gives me panic attacks, and I’m so uncomfortable with the thought of sales pitches or meeting with investors. I’ve only ever wanted to help him with his idea, but all around the business makes me unhappy. He seems to think being outside your comfort zone will only help you grow. Should I toughen up and look at this as…

Sometimes I wish…

That I had enough money to not worry about that. But instead go and apply on all those shitty jobs or with those shitty companies I read about here. Then make their life as miserable as they have done to you all. And when they try to write me up or fire me, just buy the whole place and publicly fire all those A-holes in front of all the workers. Yeah…dreams…..

This is a text from my son. He works at a “non-essential” music store. If he gets stuck or injured, can we sue? I feel like if they want ppl there for BS jobs in a snow storm, they need to be prepared to drive ppl.

How did Dave Ramsey ever get so popular with the working class by blaming the working class instead of blaming crap wages?

How should I phrase “what will you do with the record profits?” at my company town hall?

We have a company-wide town hall later this week, and based on previous reports the business did phenomenally last year. Record profits, huge amounts of growth, etc. There's going to be a Q&A at the end of the call, and I'd like to ask how they plan on distributing the profits. Raises are traditionally the usual pathetic 2-3%, so I'd love to push back on that and ask if they plan to address inflation during this current review cycle and reward employees for our hard work. Thoughts on how to phrase something like this? I don't want to come across as combative but I want to put them on the spot.

My father and his coworkers were recommended books by Dave Ramsey after being told they won’t be receiving a pay raise this year.

The boss man held the Dave Ramsey book up and said that he even had copies in Spanish if anyone need them.

Teamate makes more money. I accept their old job and “it doesn’t come with more money”

I am posting this with my wife's permission because this is her story. The company she works for is worth several billion, probably 30 billion on the low side. It's not publicly traded and is constantly ranked near the top of the Forbes “Best Places to Work” list. But they get that ranking because they have a “pizza party” culture to the absolute max. Free coffee from these delux coffee machines, free concerts from local artists, an absolutely massive Christmas party, 3 weeks PTO, free snacks, and a game room. The list goes on. But they will do everything but raise wages. Their justification is that they have a “flat structure.” These last 2 years, my wife put a lot of time and energy to getting her masters degree as well as another industry specific certification that only mid to upper level management would normally have. And even though she…

Remembering an argument I had with my boss a few years ago

A few ears ago I was working a summer job as a busboy till I went back to college. It was early August and I knew I was never going to come back to this place after I went away again. It was a country sports bar and grill that got pretty packed on weekends. We were at a 'staff meeting' which was basically the manager taking us all out back near the dupster before open and yelling about what she didn't like. That day's topic was one that was brought up a lot she said something like, “I called (name drop here) to pick up and extra shift on the grill and he said no. This isn't acceptable…” She then went into her usual threat which was that she would close down the kitchen peranently and everyone in the back of the house would be out of a job…
