IT Support Franchise is Drowning its Low-End Employees

For the past three months I have been working for an IT support company that is part of a larger country-wide franchise. The office is relatively small; typically only 5-6 people in the office at a time plus a few remote employees. I began to notice issues as soon as I was hired on, and honesty should have seen the HUGE red flags before I started. I applied for the job with no previous experience, and minimal education yet was hired the same day. The co-owner mentioned that they were a small team, and had been struggling to keep employees. At that point I didn’t really read into it because I felt lucky to get any job offers at all. My first week on the job was simple enough, they hired me as a workstation deployment specialist so I mainly handle setting up new computers for our clients. They had…

I want to go against society and its expectations

I rather just become a work-a-holic and save up cash and live the minimalist lifestyle with a 1-bedroom cheap ass apartment, a small bookshelf with a bowl of cigarettes on top and the occasional strawberry whiskey and cherry vodka. 🥣 Screw marriage, screw having kids and putting them through this work for debt and extra cash that most likely won't be brought back. Screw the society we live in surrounded by brainwashed societal ass-eating sheeps and fuck low minimum wages, increasing gas prices and the unfortunate disdain and utter greed of modern capitalism. I want to go against society and its expectations, Fuck the system.

Antiwork in a german newspaper

https://www.zeit.de/wirtschaft/2022-03/anti-work-kuendigungen-usa-arbeitsmarkt-doreen-ford I tried to post a fully translated version of the whole article twice, but my posts didn't show up somehow. The last paragraph is the most interesting one imo. “But populists like Watters, in their gloating, overlook that behind Ford and other “Antiwork” participants are serious questions to the prevailing economic system. The “anti-work” movement has become so popular that the investment bank Goldman Sachs warned in an analysis that the labor market could suffer long-term consequences. Especially since the crisis of meaning began long before the outbreak of Covid-19. In his 2018 book Bullshit Jobs, anthropologist David Graeber criticized that the majority of today's professional activities are meaningless occupations that are psychologically harmful. Graeber, who died in 2020, was one of the co-initiators of the “Occupy Wall Street” actions, which superficially remained without long-term social impact. Perhaps the wish of many entrepreneurs, conservative politicians and economists that the…

Is it legal in Michigan for an employer to try to make me pay $25 to reprint a pay stub?

Or to email one. I have 0 intentions of paying but I am pretty sure it is illegal in Michigan to refuse your employees pay stubs. Not sure about the technicalities in reprinting or requiring payment.

Just missed out on a “great, career changing sales job” and I don’t care.

I just needed to say that out loud. I work in an industry (financial) where large portions of the non-sales employees get screwed, so I’ve felt the pressure to go to sales for years to finally have a ticket out of poverty. But I always viewed a lot of the opportunities with skepticism because a lot of that industry is basically like a big pyramid scheme. I fantasized however about joining let’s call them The Mutual Fund Company just to have a concrete goal. I fought for months to get in their interview process. I was talking to a well meaning manager who said their job isn’t really as much about sales as financial planning and coaching people. I got in their interview process and at first I was amped. They talked about sales but it was with sales training and lots of opportunities to grow, so I said “ok,…

“If workers want more pay, they better be ready to pay more for product”

I don't know if this is the right place for this, but here goes. My dad (50M) and I (21F) were talking about corporate greed and I told him I think a lot of these businesses shutting down because of “short staffing” are the same ones refusing to pay their employers livable wages. I told him it was stupid that people try to argue “not every job is meant to pay a livable wage”. Everyone's trying to make a living out here… Then he proceeds to go on this 'educated rant based on facts' (his words, not mine) that if people want more pay, prices in groceries, cars, etc. are gonna go up, so we're in a lose-lose situation. Then I explained to him that a lot of big name companies that are STILL refusing to pay livable wages are making more money now than they ever have before, and…
