I had a phone interview today with a recruiter at a major clinical laboratory. S&P 500 company, record profits last year presumably due to the pandemic, and made a profit of 16 billion dollars in 2021. I am a chemist and have 7 years of experience so I applied to a job in their special chemistry department. They were offering a 1000$ signing bonus. I thought all looked promising. The interview went well and they wanted me to go to the lab right after the phone call to meet the hiring manager. Then the salary talk came. They pay 17$ an hour for qualified chemists. This is about 50% less than what I currently make at my job which is nowhere near a multi billion dollar company. I was astounded. They had my current salary as part of my application. Oh. And “Fast Paced”. Which is often used in the same bullet point as “Multitask”. Fast paced environment. Must be able to multitask. Think about how it would feel to actually multitask in a fast paced environment. Picture it. Imagine the effect it would have on the quality of your assigned responsibilities. And then the Overlord wants to know why your words sucks; the Overlord then puts you on a PIP for some failing that you cant get any better at so you're perpetually set up to fail. And of course you don't deserve a raise because you failed to meet the requirements of your PIP. I sure hope the people who service the jet I'm flying aren't required to multitask.

I’ve been working at this coffee shop for the last 4 years now. Its not the big green giant everyone knows but still another well know chain coffee shop. I’m a hard worker, always show up 30 min early, never call out, and my coworkers enjoy working with me. So, today I had my annual performance review and was to be told what my merit increase would be. I currently make $17.55/ hr as a shift manager and I’m going into this review thinking my increase would be at least $1, since thats what it has been each time. Boy was I wrong…so, so wrong. Since the company only a few months ago gave all shift managers a $1 increase they decided that was to be our raise for this year and instead gave us a 10 cent “raise”. This has happened to me twice. I am more than willing to give you a quick phone interview, but I AM AT MY JOB DURING THE DAY. I can take 5-10 minutes out of the workday if it's scheduled, but if you call me without any fore-warning I am usually in the middle of doing something. The first time this happened, I chuckled when asked what time they could call back because I was in the middle of doing a big project – to which the recruiter took as an insult and basically just hung up on me. Is your skin that thin that you can't deal with a little chuckle? The second time I asked for them to phone back in an hour – that was an hour and a half ago. FWIW- I always tip. However, delivery is upwards of 4 and change. So, if it isn’t going to my driver then who does it go to? Why is it nearly 5 bucks? Also, why am I paying my driver for their awesomeness, but you, the business who is profiting from both my sale and my driver’s labor, not tipping or paying them for their awesomeness? I’m just cranky
