Holiday time off

I think companies should be required to have time off for ALL employees when there are ANY holidays. Not just the “USA” or generally “Observed” ones. If you are part of a different religion/culture you should be able to have off any time needed for holidays that are outside of one’s “observed”. If you aren’t, there should be an effort by companies made to educate people about the holiday and it’s traditions so everyone can appreciate it. This is a no brainer and it could help people appreciate different cultures/religions and if nothing else, more time off work.

No Vacations!

I work for a state university. I was just informed that we are not allowed to take vacation from May 15 to August 15….the prime vacation months in the northern hemisphere. This was not communicated to me when I was offered the job last fall. The only guideline is that it has to be “relatively reasonable” and apparently blocking off a quarter of the year is reasonable. I hate my job. (The pay is horrible too. But hey I get to wear jeans on Friday!)

Quitting my job without notice

Am I wrong? I've decided I won't go back to work again. Clearly, several of the workers there are conspiring against me. I'm the supervisor, and I clearly told them the machine CANNOT be on when I am on lunch break. I came back from lunch. the machines were running without my authorization, and I didn't know how to fix the machine's issue because the manager had to leave. The worker then wanted to put the blame on me, when I was not there. They even want to teach me how to do my job. I already told them last week, the machine cannot be on without my own presence or the boss's presence. I feel like they secretly hate me and want to get rid of me. I don't feel fulfilled at this job anyway. I felt guilty about quitting because my boss has been great to me,…

Moving Out Struggles

Hello, I have been living in a toxic household for 21 years. I honestly dream to move out because at this point it's impossible. I don't like roommates because the thought of living with others haunts me. I don't have skills, nor a job, nor my own form of transportation. I have no idea what to do. I do get job interviews but the pay is not even enough for rent. My only solution is an online business, passive income or something that I don't have to put a lot of physical work into. What are your suggestions for me? Advice? Tips? Job ideas?

Here’s an idea for some collective action

A few days ago someone posted about this 32 Hour Work Week bill in congress. https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/4728/all-info This got me thinking about how we could use this group for real action and not just shitposting. What if we pick a day, say May 1st (International Labor Day) where we all emailed our representatives at once urging them to support the bill. Writing in to your representatives is kinda seen as ineffectual to some, but I think it's most effective when large groups of people rally around a specific issue. If enough of them are inundated with a bunch of emails on the same day about the same bill, they couldn't ignore it. Someone in that thread also proposed honing in on Bobby Scott of Virginia, who's the head of the House Committee on Education and Labor, and is thus in charge of whether the bill is pursued or not. I'm not…
