What’s the premium for brutality?

I scroll this sub often before work everyday, and it’s leading me to understand that the grass could be greener elsewhere as my company has stagnated my career in terms of pay/upwards mobility. I’ve started applying to other places in my industry and I’m stuck between a less demanding job where I could make $80-$90k a year and a rather brutal/difficult role where I would have to go three times as hard but could potentially make around $200k+ (also this would require a move) I feel like both of these positions would be an improvement from my current role, but I’m not sure if I want to work my chops off for that extra money because I’ve heard that company and role is very demanding and soul-sucking. So I come to you all, my guiding light, to ask what is the premium for brutality in the workplace(I know $100k extra…

My union plant pays less than non-union plants for the same position.

I work for a major multi-national comapny, and all of the union plants make much less than the non-union plants for the EXACT same position. (I can see all this info from the employee website with postings for open positions) According to managers it is EXPLICITLY because we are union. They claim the union sets the wage at negotiations and the union decided on less than what the company was willing to pay. (If this is true, being non-union would be a 50% pay increase.) The trade off is betrer retirement benefits for the more seniored staff. However i feel like the truth is ALOT more complicated than they say. Regardless negotiations are coming up this year, im not happy knowing people with a much lower COL (cost of living) in other states make 50% more than i do for the same job. Im not a union rep but is…

You made it into the (online edition of the) highest-circulating weekly newspaper in Germany

“But now Internet forums like the subreddit “Antiwork” are enjoying growing popularity. The motto of the forum is: “Unemployment for everyone, not just for the rich”. In October, 180,000 users were registered there, today there are over 1.8 million. In their contributions, participants often report exploitative and unfair superiors. For example, the person who calls himself ChknShtOutfit, who was given a pizza as a reward for weeks of overtime and extra work. Or the waitress who describes how the restaurant manager promotes the only man on the team who has only been there a few weeks, instead of one of the twelve long-standing female employees. Pay still plays the biggest role in layoffs. But feelings of lack of advancement and being treated poorly are almost as important, a Pew Research Center survey found.” Link to the article

My point of view

I had a bit of a thought this afternoon. A couple of weeks ago I was let go at my position for a large heavy vehicle manufacturing facility. I was doing the work of about three people while overseeing the entire picking schedule for one of the six assembly lines. Bear in mind that I was employed not as a supervisor but as part of the crew, so I was already doing more than I was supposed to be, but it needed to be done. Due to needing to also pick, deliver, organise, liaise with the production crew about mistakes made and then rectify those before the truck moved on, and then still get spoken to when I took two minutes to catch my breath outside of break times. I won't go too much more into detail about many of the “management” issues going on, but I will say that…

Boss was a dick, so I quit

I posted this story in r/maliciouscompliance, but I was told to post it here instead so.. here you go! To give some backstory, I’m now 19M who had worked at a golf course throughout the spring, summer and fall for the past 4 years. I worked in what’s called the “bagshop”, cleaning golf clubs, golf carts, and taking care of the driving range by picking up all the balls and such. After my first three years, I had made good connections with my coworkers and even some of the members who have gotten close to me and on a first name basis (it’s rare because we are supposed to call them by the last names with the title of Mr. or Mrs.). I thoroughly enjoyed this job, I worked with three of my cousins and many of my friends who I recommended for the job after a year of working…

Let me remind you social security is deeply capitalistic

Next time some conservative states that social security is socialistic, let me remind you that the inventor is a strict conservative named Otto von Bismarck who installed universal Health Care, universal pension and universal accident care to prevent a proletarian uprising. Social security is not a welfare program. Social security is a means to pacify society and I mean that in a good way. We are very proud of that even though the man who invented it was – let me say it nice – an asshole and did it for the wrong reasons. Social security is the essence – economically, societal and culturally. It is the foundation of any society that aims to advance in any of these fields. Greetings from Germany!
