Ivory Tower
I work for a major, well established company in the UK, I won’t say too much to protect my identity, but let’s just say if you live in the UK (and probably most major countries around the world), you probably have at least one of our brands in your home right now. This month was 2021 full year results month, where the company CEO and a couple of other executives presented the 2021 results to us minions and had a Q&A, with questions submitted via live chat from employees. It didn’t get off to the greatest start, with the CEO stating that the building they were hosting the event from had a really good lunch available and proceed to further reference this presumably company funded meal multiple other times. They then proceed to announced the company had made huge profits, a lot of which have been due to pandemic related…

Well, I’m Employed
After a month and a half of applying to jobs with better pay and benefits so that I could have a more manageable schedule between work and school, I finally got hired. It’s the best benefits and salary I’ve ever worked before and is going to be great for me in college. Feels pretty good after my last employee dumped me because I had a migraine curve and called off during the holidays, Y’know, when I was throwing up and dizzy from my migraine pain? I had the audacity to call off. Good thing the new place gives me PTO and sick days! I’ll be able to do my field work on my 2 days off, and still have time for office hours for the class I TA! AND I’ll be able to pay my bills and save some cash too. Feels pretty great. But I’ll still stick around and…
I have never posted on here but have been following for a while so I feel like you guys may understand my frustrations because I need to vent this out. So I’m a barista. I have been in the coffee business for 4 years now. Coffee is a huge thing in my state, there is a coffee shop or drive through on every block literally. There is this big coffee company that I have always wanted to work at. Seems like a nice place, have lots of business so lots of tips. Apparently they are severely “understaffed” just like all these other coffee shops. I finally land a interview with them. I show up for interview and the manager that is supposed to be interviewing me was an hour late. I patiently waited in the coffee shop and then had the interview. I felt like it went great and they…
Earlier this week I posted here about my job being late with my check. Well today we had a visit from the DM, this was also the first time I’ve seen her in person since I was hired. I have chronic pain and mobility issues that they were made aware of during the interview process. In November I fell, messed up my hip, and now I have to use a cane. Now all of a sudden my DM says I have to ask an outside company if I can be allowed to use my cane. If they say no and I use it anyway I will be fired. I’m so sick and tired of the bullshit from this company. Edit: Forgot to add that I am now in contact with a lawyer and building a case
Mind you this is after he gave her notice, he made up the hours, puts unlimited effort and passion into his work, AND he’s 1099 so he’s not supposed to even have his schedule dictated. I’m just appalled.
