Did I get fired?

My boss blew up at me, and I told him that I’m quitting, effective the end of the week, so I could finish a project I’m doing for them. He threw another tantrum, told me to go away, and cancelled the next two days of work. All of this was verbal, but I have written confirmation that work was cancelled those days, unplanned and suddenly, the day before. Does that count as being fired? I only lost out on two days of work more than I was going to, but unemployment right now could be very helpful while I find a new work place.

Academic rackets

Each profession has a racket, and one racket of big-time professors at big-time universities is getting PhD students to do lots of highly skilled work for very little money in exchange for ultimately receiving a doctoral degree, something over which the professor has 100% control. The other racket is research funding; tapping into research funding is like winning the lottery. You get lots of money and you get to do whatever you want with it as long as you can call it research. Research need not deliver anything of value, for the reason that it is “risky” and “leading-edge.”

my wife was lied to about a job and quit after 30 mins

So my wife got a job at a local/regional gas station. She was to work overnights at 16/hr but train for a week or 2 at 15/hr. When she got to work her first day, the offer letter was for 10/hr and they seem to have forgotten in the day sense they said they wanted to hire her, she had knee surgery and couldn't stand/squat all day and would need a chair. After they refused to work with her on that, she walked out. Now she did work for 30 mins on the clock so she should get a tiny check. Our big question is, what rate are they going to pay her at? I think they are going to be dicks and go down to minimum wage. Can they do that? I don't think they can

Offered a job, but they can’t communicate. Thoughts?

I just moved for my husband's job. I was placed on leave by my previous employer, in the hopes I would be picked up by the location that is near our new home. (This keeps me in the system, instead of having to completely reapply. Saves time and helps with finding a new psoition.) I have been in contact with the new location and was offered a position this week. Since the first time I reached out to them to let them know I was going to be moving to the area, they have been horrible at communicating. It took them two weeks to respond to my original email and all it said was the was to submit some paperwork. It made it sound like it was more of a burden than anything to have me transfer. The next time I heard from them was asking if I was still…

Why can’t we fight the concept of at-will work in court?

At-will employment is proven to cause an abusive work culture so why isn't anybody fighting it in the right type of court? Idk legal stuff but it seems like we should be able to fight against unjust laws so things change in the state itself instead of just a single work location and such but no one seems to be fighting to change this so employers think they can do as they like and people just leave it to the employees to start a union.

I’m just wondering why Antiwork doesn’t just setup a co-op or union owned business

There's 1.8 million people subbed to antiwork. It seems like the most obvious solution to your problems would be to approach it from the syndicalist idea of union owned industry. You could setup your own factory, pay everyone 100k, only work 20hrs a week, have union owned housing for all your workers, have a union owned medical facility that provides you with healthcare, and even a union owned mess hall that provides food to people 3x a day. With 1.8 million people you could easily make it happen so why don't you?
