I'm a server and my previous employer did not take out Federal Taxes. I'm pissed. I've really done everything I can. And I've reached out to a tax attorney. I don't really want anything except a bit of vindication. How stupid is it that an employer doesn't take out Federal Taxes? It's negligent. It's hap hazard and stupid. And I know I'm not the only one.
I’m in a college town bar. Why are we supposed to live off of the expectation that a customer wants to tip? Why is it expected that they tip a dollar or two for us just pouring or making a drink? I make below minimum wage and there are days we see less than 50 for working a full day. Why can’t companies just pay us a live able flat wage and then plus tips? This isn’t Las Vegas or a downtown NY or Chi city bar. Why is the wage the same? Everybody I’ve ever known who’s a bartender has the same problem and we barely have enough time to pay for school rent and the cost just to live in this country for our own free time. I feel like it’s all work and then school. The social standard of tipping is stupid because nothing stops anybody from…
Mind my pessimistic outlook but I feel like crying out just isn’t enough to get our voices heard. For years know people have been complaining about the same things in regards to healthcare (like how insulin shouldn’t cost so much, how it’s literally not the expensive to make but is marked up ten fold) or how the minimum wage isn’t livable. We try to fight this politically but it’s always the same result, broken promises and half-assed legislation. Don’t mind me and my rant, I understand that change won’t happen with outcry, im just frustrated.
Canada is doomed.
I’ve been playing phone tag with the recruiter from Vivint for the past week. We finally managed to get in contact on Thursday and he was very complementary about my résumé. After we talked a little bit about my experience And where I see my career trajectory over the next 5-10 years. I should mention I’m a very qualified PM, an expert in my field leading dev ops initiatives from inception to completion. My résumé talks about all of that including how I interact with C-levels on a daily basis. Then comes the offer—a role as a customer service representative making $8/hr. Guys, that’s a 80% pay cut. I know it was a bad idea to do this, but I lit into him. I asked him point blank “based on my 20 years in corporate America, what makes you think that I would want a position that pays a little…
I’m planning to apply as a pharmacy tech to a local Costco but wanted to see if I can search how god management was and how former employees enjoyed it. Something like ratemyprofessor if you will.
More than 50 years ago, a mass movement swept the entire world. This wave of movements spanned many minorities in the US and many countries around the world, all interconnected. But it all end in a failure more or less. Why? Because as soon as the rich saw the threat that those movements were, no matter how pacifistic they were, they decided they had to completely crush them. They attacked peaceful demonstrations, they killed, framed and imprisoned most of the leaders of those movements and silenced them in obscurity. All while the media just kept repeating the same narrative that demonized those movements over and over. All too similar to today. They are here, watching and listening to all these networks. It is not completely safe. They will try to crush everyone unless you all coordinate. They cannot silence everyone, but they will try even if they have to send…
