A nice big wholehearted “fuck you” to P&O Ferries and DP World

Laid of 800 workers over a zoom call with no warning, have brought in “private security” to forcibly remove the employees who’ve refused to leave the ships and had buses full of “agency” (young foreign workers who won’t know any better about the shit wages and treatment they’ll be receiving) waiting to replace the employees once they’d been laid off. Seriously Whataburger?

From a company that pays the bare minimum comes: this bullshit If this were on someone's wall at home, I'd shrug, think it's cringy, and move on. But when I see corporations peddling this kind of bullshit, it makes my blood boil.

I used 2 different reasons to explain my 6-month mental health break during interviews

It yielded different results (TLDR at the bottom). For background, I am only almost 2 years into my career. I got my first and only job experience at a huge corporation right out of university. I was very enthusiastic at first and was doing quite well, but then the pandemic hit, WFH setup shook me as a trainee, found it difficult to cope and like my job as an accountant (especially bc it was quite far from my degree), and a LOT of family issues came out. All of these ruined my mental health and I just lost all motivation to do anything (not my past hobbies or even basic self care). I abruptly submitted my resignation to my manager’s surprise, and gave myself time to recharge. Fast forward, I was finally able to fully recharge and I’m now really motivated to work again and grow my career, so I…

Employer changed Pharmacy Benefits, no longer covers $630 a month prescription.

I’m pretty damn pissed right now. I’m about to turn 35 but am unfortunate enough to have ED at a young age. I went to refill my GENERIC Cialis and after some back and fourth in the drive-thru, I was told that my insurance company rejected it. I asked how much it was without insurance and was told $317.00 FOR SIX PILLS! I figured there was just some issue because they don’t cover this generic or something like that. I left, went home to meet my beautiful girlfriend and was incredibly upset. She was hopeful and supportive, and I figured I’d call my insurance provider and doctor tomorrow and see if I just need to change to a different prescription. I called my provider, and was told they don’t cover ANY ED medications under the new plan. None. Apparently ED isn’t a condition worth providing coverage to. From the bottom…

Caught my job lying about hiring.

Yet another example of a company whining about labor shortages but not doing anything about it. My company needs help badly right now, it's to the point where if one person leaves it'll be up to me and the assistant general manager to work 7 days a week and that'll include a few double shifts between us. Needless to say we've been hounding our general manager to get some new hires in. But he's dragging his feet, any time we give him an application someone turns in he hems and haws, they're never exactly what he is looking for, but the candidate he's looking for is a very specific person indeed and they aren't showing up to put in an application. About a month and half ago he informed us that we were putting sponsored ads for our vacant positions up on a very popular jobs site and that we…

Had my performance review today and here’s some quick notes of what happened

I work as an assistant project manager (APM) M25. I was brought into the job underpaid and have been vocal about it from a few months in. I am part of a 8 person team with 4 of us being APMs with the others being Project Managers and Senior PMs. Recently there has been a lot of hypocrisy in my team and has made the APMs especially mad as we are doing the PMs job while they come into office late and leave early or simply look at golf clubs on their phone while we work long hours and our expected to be on call 24/7. During my performance review: Was accused of walking around too much and distracting others instead of doing my job. Me – that’s funny because I’ve only seen you in the office maybe 20% Of the time since I started working here. So therefore I…

Businesses aren’t people

I feel like saying this because most people, even most people here, are infected with a brain virus that makes them think businesses can be reasoned with or convinced like a person. Businesses aren't people, they are an Egregore, they are a manufactured entity with their own goals and ambitions that extends beyond the people it functions through. At best they”re an extremely, weirdly powerful imaginary friend (not yours though) and at worst they're Cthulhu. It's patently insane to even try to appeal to business owners or CEOs because 9 times out of 10 they're not even in control of what the business does because of how boards of directors and public trading functions. If these things are harming the natural world with impunity it is worth burning them out like a sickness, not getting into endless online arguments about which are the “good” eldritch abominations.

I am literally so disillusioned by capitalism (a bit of a rant)

Like do business really expect the same level of productivity from pre covid? The US government didn't really do anything about it and we continued on like nothing is going on. Wages have been stagnant for I don't even know how long, prices are still going up. I'm expected to be at work before the crack of dawn and leave at rush hour. I already have back problems that I can't afford to get looked at, transitioning also takes a good chunk of my money. It feels impossible to switch fields because most of my jobs have been manual labor.

WIN: Complained to HR and got a whole company holiday policy changed

Long time lurker first time poster in this sub, but love what you all do. Had to share a win today that I feel fucking proud of. Long story short, I’ve been at my company for 3 years, and have a clause in my contract saying I get an extra holiday day after 2 years of service and then 1 extra day for each year of service after that. Well last week I noticed I’d been short changed a day for my third anniversary and complained to HR about it, only to get a super long winded response about why I didn’t qualify for the extra day. Apparently the policy was set out such that I would get the holiday day for my second anniversary in the new calendar year, so I would accrue the new day from last year on 1 Jan this year. However, turns out they changed…
