Howdy- first post here, figure it wouldn't hurt to throw it out there, but I am semi-new to the workforce, and I can't do much in lieu of the usual 20-40 hour work week as I am both cognitively and physically disabled and need flexibility in order to keep myself as healthy-ish as I can be. Barely managed a part-time ice cream scooping job (way harder than you think!) I'm not on disability and not even fully diagnosed as the family only recently got decent health insurance the past year. I live in a conservative state with labor laws that make independent businesses hell to work for. As I'm not on disability I do not have a salary cap so that's not an issue, what is an issue is miraculously finding work that will not treat me like I'm a lazy waste of space due to lack of “proof” of…
Minding My Own Business
Do you ever just want to go to work, sit down, do your work, drink your coffee, say your hi's and goodbyes, collect your check and go home? All I want to do is just that and not talk to my-coworkers. But if I don't, I get introuble for simply breathing. I hate toxic work environments.
(Rant) I’m expected to help the wealthy
Background: My job is to help people gain/retain employment and up-skill in their current jobs to make a sustainable living for themselves. Usually, income is the biggest qualifier and if you make too much, we can't spend money on you. Due to the pandemic, the individual income limits have been lifted and things are being calculated based on the area someone lives. I live in what they consider a “distressed community” meaning that essentially anyone in the community is eligible just because of the county they live in. So here's the rant. I got a referral from a higher up today to enroll someone in our programming so we can buy a laptop for him while he completes a CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER certification. He is currently the Chief Nursing Officer…
No War but the Class War
Boss shamed me due to changing jobs
For context I'm currently at a retail job making 15 an hour.I submitted a multitude of applications on indeed and after tons of bs I managed to get a in office full time position for $18 an hour. The job has a start date for my training which falls before a 2 week notice period can be submitted. The manager told me she is happy and all but you didn't give a 2 week notice and your gonna leave me short staffed and now the store is gonna look bad due to a higher turn out rate ect.Has anyone else been shamed like this before? And the irony is the employment contract includes the fact that they can fire me when ever they want not one warning or write up required.
