As stated in the title, I (29F) have stayed at home while the kids are little for the past 4 years while also going to school full-time for a lot of it. I graduated college in December and the time has come for me to start contributing financially. I just really don’t want to . The thought of having to go to an office every day, having a boss and coworkers, not hanging out with my youngest all day or being able to drop everything and pick up my older two from school if they need me makes me want to cry. I’ve literally thought about OnlyFans or finding a secret sugar daddy. I’ve looked all over for ways to work from home without having to take calls and risk my toddler being needy in the background. I’m not saying I don’t want to work, I just don’t want to…
He said this and I was so taken back I didn’t know what to say. I tried talking about labor shortages and he just dismissed most of it. He kept talking about how it isn’t really hard to live in America you just have to work hard. To give a background he has lived a privileged life never having to worry about money. His parents provided everything for him and his father owns a company which he gave him a job at. He’s constantly talking about money making schemes and how we should all invest more. All this was frustrating to hear since I’m working and putting myself through college full time and my wife is a full time teacher.
doing 3 jobs at once…
I work at a small automotive glass factory where I manage the storeroom (purchasing/inventory) as well as office supplies, propane, and all the chemicals we use for production. The downside is that before obtaining my current position I was trained to be a temporary (backup) “shipping controller”, and since our management refuses to be proactive about finding more backups for both shipping as well as my own position we have on multiple occasions had scenarios where I have had to cover for shipping as well as cover all of my other responsibilities at the same time for over a week due to someone getting covid. I am now in a situation where BOTH shipping controllers on day shift are out for covid and I was told by management that I will have to cover both positions next week until further notice, and the worst part is they said I'm “absolved”…
This is… dispiriting and unconvincing
With 15+ years experience I sat down for five phone interviews all asking me to train for 6 months to a year to become an assistant manager, then they would see what positions opened up. My last interview the owner told me to come in. I told him gas is $6 a gallon and he needed to comp me lunch while we discuss wage, hours, and responsibility. Never heard back. Sorry I don't work 60-70 hour weeks for $10 an hour salary. Nope. Want a list? Habit Burger, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Subway, Del Taco, Rubio's, the other guy is a private owned place and I drove by anyways today to use the pisser, the staff looked like the walking dead.
It really seems like while a majority of the people here are office workers, I'd say the other biggest group judging by posts and comments is food workers. I myself was radicalized after a horribly abusive job that I worked 55 to 60 hours a week at, and got paid a flat 40 every week. Bit was always gaslighted about my abilities, reasons why, and whatvwas happening. I only really woke up to it when I got another job. Its better, but it's similar problems. No one will communicate with you. Yet expect you to JUMP when they forgot to tell you how high and when. I've already made it clear to my manager, I'm not the one to play with. Cause I know these games. If you comply once, you comply a thousand times over. They will use you and beat you to nothing. The middle managers are selfish.…
the movie In Time
I know the topic is a bit random but hear me out. for amyone who hasnt seen it the basic premise is this, in the future they learned how to stop people from aging once their 25 and they get a 1 year countdown that if it hits 0 you die. you can theoretically live forever now time has replaced money in this world you get paid in time and buy things with time movie example 4 minutes for a cup of coffee. Anyway, early in the movie we see how the price of inflation and low wages are causing people to fall over dead. alot of movie stuff happens The movie ends>! with the people with thousands of years having their time stolen and spread out among the masses.!
Like so many others, my man has been going through some ahot at work Where's he's grossly underpaid for the responsibilities he's given. In a moment of free-thought rage he said “I should just write my pay on my hand for everyone to see.” I rather liked that idea.
Hi everyone! Writing this on mobile so sorry for formatting blah blah. ps: first few paragraphs are explaining my work situation, so if you want just the meat, skip down a bit. I would really love peoples opinions on my work situation, as I really don’t know what to think or how to approach my current situation. To preface this post, I’ve worked for a “legal registry” for about 7 years now, and have worked my way up the ranks, starting out as a courier, and then moving into office responsibilities, and finally I have been the office coordinator for 2 years. I’ve been extremely loyal to this company, even returning after a 3 month Covid layoff, and being here through a high turnover the past few years. The company itself is “family run”, which knowing this sub, we all know is typically a red flag. Regardless, my first years…
