I hate those gray areas of having a long cold with a “starting to feel kinda sick” phase, an “actually sick” phase, and a “still sick but it’s going away” phase, and being told “stay home if you’re sick”? I feel like “sick or not sick” is too black and white. How about a scale based on symptom severity? Unless companies truly do want to pay employees for the entirety of their sickness. But I don’t think they do that lmao
Broken bathroom
Bathroom isn’t working at work since yesterday said a porta potty is coming sometime in the afternoon. Only have local businesses to drive down the road to available. What should I do? This is not the first time. Pipes often freeze or has other problems
Thankfully not impacting me, but we should demand Executives do the math of WIO's revenue boost We all know there's costs to the company; lower moral, higher electric/water usage, building rent; but have seen no examples how WIO leads to revenue gains.
Emil Cioran on work
“I made a decision: Not to work. To live as a parasite. I never worked in my life. I never had a job, except for a year, in Brasov, as a high school teacher. And it was a complete failure. I realized I could not practice a profession. I have to wander around in life. To avoid any responsibility. I have to do everything in order to save my freedom. Freedom to not work in the proper sense of the world. All my life, I calculated how I can be free in a complete sense. Life is only worth living if you are free. I don’t want to be a slave in any way. This is the only absolute certainty that I’ve had in life. I don’t want to be subordinate. I can succumb to any humiliation. On the condition that I am free.” -Cioran
People always say it’s respectful and that if you don’t it can look bad but is it actually necessary to give a full two weeks notice? My job brought us back into office and I was able to find something much better that’s remote and pays more. Before I find out my start date I want to figure out I should give two weeks or just maybe a week or just leave immediately. Not sure what to do.
My wife has been given the opportunity to study brewing, there's a scholarship for women and a traineeship/job involved and everything. She's only really ever worked basic hospitality jobs and I've really only worked basic retail jobs, we don't earn a lot and we're approaching 30. This is something she is passionate about, its a growing industry that aligns with our values of local produce and whatnot, and it would improve our income a lot. And her parent's reaction was basically a “aw nah sometimes you just have to suck it up and worked the hard jobs”. That is to say, she ought to plug away earning minimum wage instead of looking above her station or moving to an industry kind of “alternative”. I thought covid and the worldwide economic crisis' taught everyone that alternative lifestyles/jobs are becoming more necessary than ever and that now is the time for drastic…
I had to re-interview for my own job.
This is a bit of a story that I wanted to share with you all antiworkers. So I had been a temporary worker at my local authority for over 2 years, and I was offered a permanent position due to staff leavers. Awesome, I thought. Just a click of a button to switch me from temporary to permanent. Nope. The Business Manager insisted that they post the job and conduct interviews before Christmas; three people got to interview (including me). I interviewed, the Business Manager completely threw me off my flow (on purpose) and sat there wishing he hadn't interviewed me, and almost offered my job (which I'd been working for over TWO YEARS) to another dude that had no experience in the field, just knew how to talk to people. My boss had to fight to keep my job. I was reluctantly offered the job on Christmas Eve, with…
