I started a new job and it is very fast paced. It's a convenience store/kitchen/cafe. The owner pinches pennies by reusing things that shouldn't be reused like zip lock baggies and those lil card board boats you put fried food in to display in the hot box at the counter. We use the same boats every day. Also we are advised to use only one pair of those flimsy disposable gloves throughout the day. Another way they pinch pennies is to keep the labor low. They usually have one person in the morning, sometimes 2. It doesn't usually get too busy then. But the afternoon/evening shift is the busiest and there is always one person working thru 2 rushes; at 3pm, when school let's out and 5pm, dinner rush, which can sometimes last for hours depending on how hungry ppl are that day. Then they have someone come in near…
Same game. Different masters.
what i learned as a “hard worker”
you're gonna work the hardest . you will deserve a promotion . your peers will respect and recognize you for your efforts . the company will earn a profit . the store/business/restaurant will succeed because of your efforts . you won't get the promotion because there will never be a position open . your experience will be what keeps you getting the most high fives and pats on the backs . you would still be getting paid the same or less than the new kid .
I have increased my salary by at least 30-50% every single time I have quit to go somewhere else. My advice to anyone, especially anyone starting out today in fields such as project management, marketing, finance, online, ecommerce etc is, get a job, get 2 years on your resume and quit for the next thing. Start planning leaving at 18 months. Write an email to yourself from your personal email to your personal email about projects you've been a apart of, reports you write, new tasks you do. Even if you only play a small role on a large project, write that down 'I was part of a multi-team project to secure/achieve/deliver revenue/new client/new technology'. It really simple, companies have good budgets to hire new people and nothing, or very little, to retain staff – take advantage of that. Go become a new hire and stop waiting for someone to…
I work for Spencer's gifts, a company who I'm sure anyone who's visited it is aware profits off of symbolism of acceptance, anti-racism, and pro LGBTQ+. Recently we had a supervisor quit and they were looking to promote an associate to the position. They were considering me and another person for the position. Other supervisors on top of me and other associates have made it very clear that we have had experiences with the other candidates making racist comments, transphobic comments, homophobic comments, and being sexually inappropriate during work hours. Couple that with the fact that I had been working with the company significantly longer than the other candidate. Well recently we got the schedule and the problematic employee has been promoted against the advice of other management and the wants of the employees. So naturally a mass resignation is under way. Their only other supervisor quit immediately, I quit…
I was talking to another person on Reddit today and realized that all we know is TV sit-coms, consumerism, capital greed, and second rate American Authors. Nowhere ever in American High School are we taught the pros and cons of Marxism, Socialism, And Anarchy. We're literally force fed Reagan's Trickle Down Economics, Twain's shallow satire, and the 50 hour salary corporate job. I am sorry to say, but George Carlin is the only person to say anything about how fucked we are.
