about how many people have ghosted her when she's set up to interview them. She's a manager, not HR. It's a commonly known job with education requirements, so it's not like applicants would be also applying at service jobs. But she doesn't get that they don't owe her anything and she's super annoyed. lol
Its kind of annoying that places where the employees are not dependent on tips for pay are asking for tips. The employer sets costumers up to look like assholes for not tipping when they could just pay more. Im talking places like starbucks or tropical cafe. Like why is it the costumers job to pay the employee more than minimum wage.
Mask Mandate Lifting
I’m a Starbucks worker at a drive thru. We serve 100s of customers a day and now Starbucks wants to lift the mask mandate. Customers keep complaining about how they have to ask for straws or not being able to see our faces and now they finally get what they want. A lot of my coworkers are heavily antivaxx and anti masks and I’m honestly scared for my health. Even if covid symptoms of the delta variant are way more mild, I’m terrified of the long term effects. Personally I’m vaccinated and boosted, but I have a pretty weak immune system. Not immunocompromised but if I get sick, I get the worst symptoms and it lasts a while. I just had a cold about 2 weeks ago and I’m still struggling with it. Why is Starbucks so quick to remove protocols that are supposed to protect us Baristas? (We no…
Still Trying To Get A Better Job
Hey, been a long time lurker and I just wanted to share my story of “trying to get a better job.” Everyone telling their stories here and showing the ridiculous stuff that goes on between employees and employers makes So when I was in high school I used to do manual labor with my Dad who was essentially a freelance landscaper, which was very hard on his body, and I knew I didn't want to do manual labor my whole life so I figured I might as well do good in school and escape my hometown. I also worked in my hometown at a fruit stand (under the table labor, cash only pay) and at a take-out place for just over minimum wage. Those jobs were fucking terrible. I went to college and I wanted to be a writer, but decided that chemistry (I'm good at chemistry) was a better…
I work at a large organization in a department responsible for regulating our Information Technology department (making sure they don’t spend to much of our budget, making sure our devices are in compliance). The IT guys don’t like what we do because we put limitations on them, but they are basically allowed to operate with impunity because they have access to our administrative passwords and accounts. Their idea of a good time is to mess with our mouse cursors or edit the code of our most frequently used department websites and tools so they act up or don’t work correctly. They even use our companies productivity software to monitor our conversations while we work from home and then they post memes about it all around our offices when they aren’t working remotely. Our team knows it is happening and have been reasonable with them about our expectations but this is…
How do I ask for a raise?
I work as a detailer at a dealership of a major car manufacturer in rural America. With the recent rises in gas prices and the current inflation, it's getting harder (impossible) to stay afloat financially. I started work in September of last year at $13/hr with 2 years of collective experience. Recently the minimum wage has jumped from $11/hr to $12/hr, but my pay stayed at $13/hr. Right now we have one other worker in our department other than myself. We're supposed to have a team of 4. Since being here I've trained 3 other people, 2 of which no longer work for us. Since I've been here, I've been told multiple times by the sales team that our department has made a complete 180, and that it's nice to see people take pride in their work for a change. I've never asked for a raise a day in my…
Maybe I’m not working hard enough?
So I don’t work a 9-5 job and I knew this already before signing the contract. I had a hard week, sleep deprived, and expect to work over the weekend as well. And that’s basically the same case for my colleagues (at least so they claimed). Today my manager asked me to take on another sh*t load of work. I argued with her and said no. She eventually backed down Thing is, I feel extremely guilty after refusing to do the extra work – guess someone else will eventually have to do it and make their life (even more) miserable. I just wonder if I should feel this way… I wanna protect myself from another sleep deprived week but that’s at the expense of other people… Guess since I’m posting here, I already know the answer somewhat…
