Playing the System

I hate the idea of working 365. So much so I've been working a difficult job for years, just to have seasonal layoff. Older I get though the more I feel is expected of me…the opposite of what I want, to the point where I intentionally gimp myself and potential raises/promotions because I'm a “lazy” when in reality I'm sick of spending my existence working. Currently avoiding my phone because it's almost time to go back to work.

Does Your Employer Monitor How Much, or How Hard, You’re Working?

I've seen this in the NYTimes and think it might result in a good study: Does Your Employer Monitor How Much, or How Hard, You’re Working? We’re interested in learning about how employers monitor who is “active” or “idle,” and how much workers are getting done.

Oh you’re not going to give me the raise that was promised to me upon hiring? Ok, cya.

I started as a Social Worker for a local facility fresh out of college. I was lucky enough for them to give me a shot without any experience. I asked for a certain amount (which was fair) and was told that due to my inexperience that they’d start me at a lower wage, but bump me to my requested salary after 6 months. 6 months later I was just told “times are tough for us right now. I have to clear it with corporate and make sure it’s ok to do this.” Are you kidding me? This was contingent on being hired. You don’t think times are tough for me as well? I lived paycheck to paycheck for six months on a promise that is going to be broken? I did not put myself through school on a fixed income for multiple years to be disrespected like this. If I…

Don’t be nice to support staff if you want a promotion!

According to my boss (interim, cover for parental leave, no real power), a lawyer can't be polite and nice to the secretaries in the team if the lawyer wants to get a promotion. Ok, Mr Wannabe, the fact that you are a massive a-hole and have no friends doesn't mean everybody around you needs to suffer.

long commutes makes me feel like a sucker

Seriously, I'm wasting time and money going to a place I don't want that doesn't earn enough to live a good life and then I have to drive back in traffic, and when I do get home I have lime 3 hours to “relax” which is basically just house chores and 45 minutes of youtube before bed

Well my work just made me cry out of anger.

I know this is going to sound like an overreaction to many of you and if I were in the right state of mind I would probably agree. But my work just made me cry out of anger so I’m not thinking clearly. My work made it clear that their intention was to bring people back to the office and they made this intention clear many months ago. I wasn’t thrilled because at that point we had been working from home for over a year with minimal issues so it seemed silly that we would have to go back to the office at all though I do think it was very optimistic of me to think that work from home would become permanent. The return to office date was set up and pushed back several times over the months but at the end of last year we were told definitively…

Our break room only seats 4 people. We have 25 employees.

And everyone takes lunch at noon. I can’t eat in the breakroom because I don’t want to stand. I can’t eat at my desk because my desk is a literal blood laboratory. I have to eat in my car everyday, lmao.

Disney employees should protest against the Don’t Say Gay bill

Disney has a large LGBT fanbase and Disney’s support of the monstrous Don’t Say Gay bill is a betrayal to so many Disney fans and employees. Disney employees should stage a walk out to protest against Disney’s support of fascists. It should be spread amongst Disney employees that they should start a walk out to protest against Disney’s support of fascism. Disney brings a lot of revenue to Florida so Disney being forced to disavow support for the fascistic bill could help combat it. Spread the word!
