My boss (who’s on vacation) just messaged us that he bought flowers for his boss on behalf of the department, and we all need to Venmo him $20 for it.
Hi Reddit. I don’t know if I’m looking for advice or just to vent, but I’ve reached my breaking point and I’m about to lose my mind. I work in human medical research. I’m an assistant and I work with 3 PhDs. I’ve worked here since August and I’m currently drowning. I get here at 8 am and work 8-5. Everyone else has pretty variable hours, but I’m always the first one here so I can start everything as soon as I get here. For the past month, I’ve had so much work that I get here at 8, work until 1, take 15-20 minutes for lunch, go back to work until 5, all without stopping. And even then, the work isn’t finished and the PhDs finish up after I leave. I also come in once every weekend to feed our cells and check everything. I live 35 minutes away…
Lawsuit territory?
As titles states. I work in an SEMH* School, so we deal with 11-16 year old that present very challenging behaviours and can be extremely violent. We've been struggling with recruitment, as a result we've been using agencies to provide staff. We had an experienced person join us that was not only great at the job, but also fantastic with the kids. He also had a cultural background that we've not got in the team and resonated with the students. In a nutshell, he gave us exactly what we needed and was resilient enough to manage the job. His contract was coming up to expire. No one from SLT spoke to him. One of our middle leaders facilitated a meeting, my colleague asked for Market Rate, they offered the bottom rate. He said he couldn't accept it. They said take it or leave it. Today would have been his final…
Less productive in the office
I am less productive since returning back to the office because my desk is in a high traffic area and everyone stops to ask me questions, shoot the shit, or whatever. I was in a virtual meeting the other day (headphones on) and a fellow employee came to my desk, waved at me, just to say that she spilled some coffee and asked if I could call custodial care… I had a sign on my desk that clearly said “in a meeting, do not disturb”. Does anyone else seem less productive since returning to the office?
Originally posted on /trueoffmychest and was getting downvoted for whatever reason, lol. So a year ago I saw a government job I thought was a very good fit for me and decided to apply. I messaged the supervisor and was told “Sorry, I know the website says the application is still available, but it actually closed yesterday. You have to wait an entire year.” Wait a year I did. Obviously I didn't stop myself from applying to other jobs, but yeah. Anyways, the other day I was told that I'd have to take an “exam” prior to applying to the job. So I create an account, log in, and apparently was answering all these questions without knowing what I was answering was considered the “exam.” It was a little over 100 stupid questions that all said only to check if I've performed an activity at work (school wasn't allowed). …
I work for a publicly traded company. Our ceo wants us all back in the office three days a week. Hell no. I'm asking our Director of HR for a position reclassification to remote and to formally request it. Let them fire me or pay me off to leave if they say no. The policy was developed arbitrarily and capriciously without any formal communication to staff or appeal policy being presented.
And here we are, prices are going up but wages remain the same.
