Everyone is always moaning on anti-work about there being no plan. Well here you go, premised on several factors. First, the presuppositions (not debating these, telling you what I think they are): Workplace organizing in the U.S. is dead, we lost, the system is set up to discourage and de-fang it, get over it, move on. The U.S. is a declining empire during one of the most political and ecologically volatile times in its history. This will result in power vacuums at the local and regional level in the future. Electoral politics in the U.S. is a choice between neo-liberal authoritarianism (Democrats) empowering fascism in the long term or outright fast-track facism (Republicans). Voting is only harm reduction in delaying facism, and that's questionable given Dems often deport, arrest, prosecute, and oppress more than Repubs in their stupid race to trip over themselves showing the American public they aren't commies.…
Supposedly entry-level…
So I got fired today for engaging in business errands. You know the thing where the people you have obligations to are open from 9-5 and your boss makes you work 8-5 and has you shut your cell phone off? Oh and did I mention you get docked a point for each time you do that no matter if the day or hour is asked off in advance? Who else has a full time job and has a strict 8-5 lockdown policy?
what can I do to help the movement?
Let's face it. Posting numbers about the wealth and generational gap on here doesn't do much. Granted it does do some. I used to be more conservative. I never classified myself as Dem or rep but I definitely leaned more right. I thought the right cared more about working people. While I don't think “democrats” care about working class people much I feel like I lean more left now. I just personally don't think any politicians give a shit about me but I want more workers rights and more income equality so I guess that's more “democrat” anyways I feel like we need a leader. Not on the internet posting stuff. Some one out there doing shit. I'm willing to rally and lead people. I have leadership qualities and charisma. What should I do? Go some where populated and start a speech or what
A binding arbitration agreement is explicit written consent to let your employer violate any of your rights, and you can't sue them. A former employer of mine has a binding arbitration agreement as part of their contract. Employees' only hope for recourse is through a mediator of the company's choosing, whose ruling can't be appealed. At that company, I saw discrimination. I saw retaliation for using FMLA time. I saw textbook, quid-pro-quo sexual harassment. (The victim had to leave the company; the harasser got promoted.) The non-discrimination policy was a joke. None of the victims have any legal recourse. (“We'Re like a fAmiLy h3re!!1” is the free space on my BINGO card.) Am I wrong to be so distrustful? Friends. Comrades. We always have recourse. We can always strike. We can always exercise passive resistance. It is literally impossible to make it impossible. Striking when it is illegal is an…
Quick question about wages
So basically to keep it short some of my coworkers and I figured out that where we work is now hiring at a higher entry level wage for the same position we have held for a much longer time. What is the best way we can approach this to our manager? I can specify further in the comments if its too vague. Thanks!
Need advice. Shady practices
So I turned down a 50 cent raise because I found out someone that was hired after me, was payed more for the same job. I found out the boss didn't want to disclose any of this and I asked if my pay would be retro to the time the other person was hired. I'm not signing the pay adjustment until I get some answers. He said that since we didn't know about the discrepancy, we shouldn't get any retro pay. Also, I'm female with a B.S. and the other person is male with less experience. It's very strange, but not the first time this has happened. We are also told not to discuss our pay which I know is crap.
Scheduled Surgery Is Not Allowed
My job told me that I can’t use my PTO days, due to too many people having already called out on those days. I requested this PTO, 3 weeks in advance, when I got the date set for my medical procedure. My team is made up of about 12 people. Since I’ve been here, about 6 people have either left or been fired, though they were exceptional workers. It seems that they all had “attendance issues” according to management. They haven’t hired enough people to fill those 6 spots. My manager advised me that I could just take the days off anyway, and provide a doctor’s note, to excuse any occurrences. Doctor’s excuses can be accepted “at their discretion.” Suffice to say, I will be terminating my employment immediately.
A burnt out dog bather.
I love this sub. it has inspired me many times to stop taking BS not only from our clientele but also my boss. She’s very obviously a narcissist and a boomer too. Hours have been cut from my paychecks. The average dog bather bathes 5- maybe 12 dogs a day. My coworkers and boss have taken advantage of my niceness and helpfulness to the point that i bathe 20-25 dogs a day. My position at the company IS to help get all the dogs bathed, but it IS NOT my job to bathe every single one of the groomers dogs. On top of the massive heap of dogs i do, half of them don’t get touched by the groomers after i finish with them & i am not receiving compensation for this! I’m doing the ENTIRE job, yet the groomer gets to pocket the tip. I don’t get tipped out…
