I really wish some employers could answer this nagging question I have about this need for your employee’s work lives to seep into their personal lives as well.

Maybe I am completely mistaken here, but it seems like there was a time when there were clear lines between work life and personal life. Nowadays employers want you using your personal social media sites to advertise. They want you to add them and your co-workers to your social media. They want you attending work parties/functions after hours or on your days off. They want everyone to have lunch together as a group for “lunch meetings” instead of letting everyone have that time for themselves to decompress as they see fit. They text/call you when you’re at home on your day off, or it’s 9pm at night and you’re going to bed, and expect you to answer. And if you do not comply with any of of the above mentioned things, (don’t want to add colleagues on your social media, don’t want to attend a work function on your day…

“I wouldn’t call it lucky. Within that time, I can do 5-10 times more the amount you did. I mean, obviously there’s a difference here”

Said my boss when I mentioned my small win at the job and that I felt my luck finally turned around

Why the fuck do we care if students have good grades for post secondary education?

I’ve been well Out if school for some time – but I wanted to express an opinion. Why does it matter or rather how are my poor grades denying me the ability to learn at a university or college? What sense does that make? Oh you have poor grades so we won’t let you in? The fuck is that? Who gives a shit about my grades – let me learn – I think everyone and I mean everyone understands that grades mean nothing as you becoming older, yet we hold so much weight on it for our future. I for one think it’s a huge scam. What does an arbitrary number or letter do for me? If I can learn – the the thing that should be rewarded is the capacity to learn not a manufactured bench mark. Further more – what does it mean for a failing student to…

weirdest conversation ever with potential employer

I'm picking up a part time job for a few months to help with a huge 3 week west coast road trip later this year and had a interview lined up at 4:30 today at Home Depot but got a part time overnight job at Walmart instead b/c it's closer to home and pays 3 dollars more an hour than Depot. So I call to let them know instead of just not showing up and the woman on the phone says “So your just quiting on your first day, oh ok I see what kind of person you are now” I say no ma'am I've never had a job with you to quit, I'm just calling to let you know I had an interview and I didn't want to be put down as a no show. I got a job with the same shift that pays $3 more an hour…

If I get paid more, I will have less money. This system is broken.

I'm on Medicaid. I'm only a little below my state's income cutoff. Without Medicaid, the cost of my healthcare would be close to $3,000 at minimum per year when you factor in insurance premiums, the deductible, copays, etc. So needless to say, Medicaid is an absolute necessity for me. The thing is, I kind of hate my job. It's a “good” job. I like the company I work for, I have benefits. I'm just burned out and sick of spending my day dealing with rude patients. A new position just opened up in my company. It's right up my alley. Relevant experience for my field of study, less patient interaction. And apparently the pay is better though I don't know the exact amount. The pay rate is a problem. If I earn even a dollar over my state's cutoff, I lose my Medicaid. My employer could pay me a whole…

Genuine Question: What Will Happen When the Boomers Die?

Let's say we survive the climate crisis. Boomers are getting older and sicker and the majority will, statistically, die out in the next 10 years. I've never worked in an office or even grunt job (think childcare/Costco) without Boomers. When we lose such a huge percentage of the wealthy and job- holders, what could happen to our economy, housing market, job market, etc?

I’m partially disabled & can’t find a job that will employ me without giving me a hard time about needing to be off 7 to 9 days a month.

Let me start by saying I'm a college student who has recently given up on school. I can't financially afford to attend my classes due to unemployment. I have severe uterine fibroids, this means I'm on a narcotic to control the pain & hemorrhage 7 to 9 days a month. I'm not totally disabled, I want to work, but all resources available to me are turned down because of lack of insurance to have surgery & my inability to public transportation. Did I mention I live with my mom in a one bedroom & she's totally disabled with limited income. I'm a professional truck driver, but can't get off the pain meds so I can get a medical card to get my cdl back. I do have an F endorsement for now. However, my cdl is a class A with an passenger endorsement. What can I do to provide for…
