I just did the math, and it takes me alone 14 days to make enough money for the company to cover my pay for the YEAR.

Stopped working at the school, and someone accidentally made poisonous gas almost instantly when I left.

So For some context I work at a school district, and I do lots of work. I substitute, clean (this is important later), do some work in the kitchen etc. I guess you could say I’m just an all around worker. So about a week ago I was working as a substitute for a class with a few kids in it, and they pretty much had a free day. The teacher left very little work for them, and once they finished it they kept the noise low and we’re quite respectful. Eventually I got bored, and since the kids were behaving, I got on Reddit. I was scrolling, mostly just looking at cats and stuff, when all of a sudden the principal (a complete dickhead, btw) walks in to randomly check up on the class. He starts asking general questions, how’s the kids, what are they doing, is their work…

CMV: LinkedIn should be renamed to ‘Bootlickers-R-Us’

I have a solid career and my LinkedIn profile is where I get a good part of my work, but I never go on there. Recently I’ve been job hunting and responding to messages….. and I just cannot believe the content that gets shared or passed around. Some small amount of it seems to be coming around to understand employer abuse is ridiculous – but good lord the bootlicking is just EVERYWHERE on that site. I guess propaganda is a helluva drug. Anyone have a different experience on LinkedIn?

What is the point of voting?

Honestly. We have two main “right-wing” parties in the States, with one being more extremist than the other. Nothing beneficial for the low-income working class even gets done, despite false promises. What can we do to further the movement, and ensure something is done, when the main political parties are practically on the same side? Not to mention, a good majority of them are extremely antiquated in today’s society. It just seems like a system, that is designed to be entirely against the lower class people, who barely even have a voice.

I work only 10-15 hours a week but get paid for 60 hours.

I started a new job last year and figured out that I can get the job done in 2,3 hours a day. Was originally scheduled for 40 hours but I told them that I need 20 more hours of overtime just to make sure everything runs smoothly. Now I get paid for 60 hours a week and work between 10-15 hours a week. I even feel very very good about it, the system is made to destroy the average person this is the least I can do to escape. There is no way I will be a slave for the rest of my life, will try and game the system every time I can

My husband who is the best and classiest dresser I have ever met was told he was “showing too much skin” from his boss.

We seriously can’t make sense of this. They’re asked to dress in business casual attire, but never really made specifics. It’s assumed that the general “no jeans, nice shirt, etc.” is considered. My husband worked as a professor at a big university before this, but has recently been hired as full time staff at the same university. I won’t say what his title is now specifically, but his office in particular has about 6-8 other women working with him. Students do not enter this space. He gets complimented for dressing so well from at least one person everyday on campus. He’s usually known in our friends group as being the best dressed one. My husband either does a tie and vest or a suit jacket and dress shirt. When he does the dress shirt and no tie, he’ll leave the top two buttons unbuttoned. You barely can see his neck,…

It’s not that I don’t want to work, I just don’t want to be a cog in the machine of capitalism

I don’t mind working on new projects such as gardening or home improvement. What I do have a problem with is when I’m stuck revolving around doing the same job day in and day out, for a specific amount of hours every week. It’s just a grind everyday doing the same kind of things day in and day out. I don’t mind the work. I mind the politics, the hours I’m forced to put in even when I am not needed, and how truly little we actually contribute. Most of my job is bs paperwork and quality assurance when it truly just isn’t needed.

Just had a company meeting. Asked to work harder to maybe get raises later this year that won’t match inflation.

Such a bad comedy joke. Much of my office, about 10 people, commutes between 45 min or an hour and the rising gas prices have hit hard. Several people approached management over the week including myself asking for concessions or ways to make things more agreeable such as partial work from home and were told it would be considered with a meeting to come Thursday. Thursday has come and I am so annoyed, so I want to share some highlights. Management said that billable hours must increase from around 2000 (been around there since start of covid, this is a service industry) to around 3200 before raises can be further discussed. The raises themselves will not necessarily match cost of living changes or inflation changes as that is outside of projected budget. At the same time, a new marketing campaign will be started to reach new clients and a business…

This sub has really given me the confidence to put my foot down and put my safety before my job. This is an email I just sent to reschedule an interview because the roads are covered in ice.
