If you want cheap rent and live alone, look for private sector student housing.

TL;DR: I'm paying $350 a month, all utilities included, within walking distance of a college campus. When colleges closed down early in the pandemic, private sector student housing lost most of their tenants. To make matters worse, there was a MASSIVE expansion in online college programs, which means private sector student housing never filled back up, even after the colleges reopened. It's gotten to the point where the rent is cheaper, and you don't even have to be a student at most of these places. Some of them are even renting to people with criminal convictions. It's gotten that bad, and they're desperate to fill up rooms. If you live alone, don't mind roommates, and want cheap rent, then take a look at student housing. A lot of the private sector student housing is being absolutely ravaged by pandemic changes.

Some Tom Dick Harry recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn. If you won’t disclose salary information first, you aren’t even worth a phone call. Do not give these people an inch.

I quit my job because people at my work place think Middle Easterners are not civilized enough

So my boss was meeting with us today and when she spoke about the war in Ukraine , she literally told me (an Iraqi) , you can ask him how the people in Iraq are OK with suicide bombers but we are talking about Ukraine! and I immediately interrupted and said what makes you think we are OK with suicide bombers? She said because there were news everyday about was a suicide bombing and car bombs in Iraq but this cannot happen in Ukraine, Ukraine is Europe!! I immediately left the room and sat alone at my desk, then after the meeting she came to my desk and asks to speak in private, I go with her , and she tells me and I quote” I am sorry if you felt bad for the things I said there , I meant the muslims in Iraq not you, since you are…

My brother turned antiwork without knowing about r/antiwork

My father passed away recently. As a boomer union electrician he left a surprisingly large estate. We're still dealing with closing that out. My brother referred to what we have so far as his “FU money” for if he wanted to quit his job. He went to his supervisor with the legit request that he should be making more than the new hires, given that he'd worked there for years and was deeply involved with keeping the place running. His supervisor disagreed in no uncertain terms. My brother left shouting the iconic “Fuck you, pay me” motto and kept it up as he walked out the door. It brought a happy tear to my eye. It took a month of having that safety net for him to realize he controlled his time and labor. He's got 2 interviews lined up, more to keep busy than to do the full time…

A reminder for anyone staying in a job for “benefits” (i.e. health care): in most states, you qualify for Medicaid, regardless of how much money you have in the bank or how much property you own.

This has probably been addressed on this sub before, but I work in eligibility in my state and I wanted to put it out there. It came to mind because my son, who works in the IT field and makes just around 100K a year, is planning on quitting his job soon. (He says he has enough saved to live off of “for a while”; I don’t ask details.) I reminded him that he would need health insurance, and he asked about applying for Obamacare. To be clear: If you apply for healthcare through the FFM, and you’re below 138% of the FPL, they will forward your application to your local department of social services, and you will qualify for Medicaid. There is NO resource test for this type of Medicaid. That means you could have a million dollars+ in the bank or other liquid or property resources and still…

Visited my old job (a bar) after three weeks of starting my new job (a school)

The owner was drunk. It was 1pm. And not just drunk, but drunk drunk. Drinking free booze at the bar. Owners kids, family, friends, and all managers get free food, while cooks are told they can't eat on the job, they have to throw leftovers, and there are really no benefits to speak of. Cellphones are not allowed (and having one on you is a fireable offense). Being late just a few minutes will earn you a write-up. And these people proudly advertise that they're hiring for some of the lowest wages in town. But “people don't want to work anymore”. That's the problem.

Got everyone at work a raise

It's only from 10 dollars an hour to 11, but this post is to prove that you all ARE MAKING A difference. I would have never had the outburst I did when they told me they were making up the difference in tips. And no reddit lawyers, before you waste time writing a book, I proved to myself mathematically is was not only legal but also that we were making 12 dollars an hour. here is why they made the change: Before they were paying us the minimum wage plus tips. Then, the minimum wage in my state hit 11. So 10 plus tips is still 12, fuck me right? Haha, I told them I quit. I made a big spectacle, I can't even remember what I Said. All I saw was red. 2 people quit directly after me. To disappoint you all, I went back the next day after…

employer asking me to clock out for bathroom breaks

I drink water, as do most other living things on this planet, thus I need to use the bathroom occasionally. Today I was told not once, but twice to not only 1) clock out when I go to the bathroom and 2) use the clock-out time as my unpaid break time. Isn’t that against the law? If so, what can I do?
