Can anyone give me some insight into working at a start up?

I know you guys will keep it real and and not sugarcoat things. I'm going through an interview process with a start up but am an unsure if I'd feel comfortable working there. I work hard but through the grapevine I really only hear bad things about being overworked, anyone confirm or deny?

Forced into Fundraising

I’m very distraught about the situation I’m in and can’t decide how to deal with it. I’ve worked for a nonprofit organization that helps the disabled community for the past 4 months. I really love the work I do with our consumers and finally feel at home in my role. My problem is our organization was embezzled from and is in debt almost $500,000. After a couple years of floundering it’s about to go under. The Director has asked that everyone get on board with outreach and fundraising to save our sinking ship. We have just 12 employees. I’ve already volunteered my time for many fundraisers and worked overtime at others since being hired. Now they want us to ditch the “small time fundraisers” and cold call local businesses for large donations and sponsorships. I offered to raise funds within my comfort zone which is social media or crowdfunding and…

Will be laid off on the 31st of March.

Really just sad. I don't know what to say honestly. I gave up a job with some people who I really enjoyed working with on the promise that this place had 5 years worth of work at an amazing salary with WFH. Today we got an email from HR about a teams meeting later in the day. We all got on and they just said “unfortunately everyone on this call will no longer work here after the 31st due to scope changes”. When asked if we had any questions I laid into them about how unethical it was to lure 29 people into these positions and then just let them go 5 months after their hire on date. They apologized 100 times and then just ended the call. There were 29 of us let go today. Luckily I've been sitting on a back up the whole time as I had…

For people in PA and OH

Avoid the store ‘sports obsession’ they are greed pieces of shit who sell worthless sports memorabilia that you can find cheaper elsewhere. They fucked over my friends and the employees on their by closing down shop without notice and leaving my friend and the others jobless. They didn’t have the balls to even talk to my friend and give him a proper notice or apology.

Can my boss make me drive to get the mail in the morning and drop off after work?

When I first started at my job, the post office was right down the street from my work so they had me picking up in the morning and dropping off after work. We just moved to a different location and now the closest post office is 10 minutes away, and in the opposite direction of where I live. I recently had to move further away from our old office because they don’t pay me enough to live in the area, and it’s even further from the new office. With that in addition to gas pushing $4/gal, I really don’t think they should be asking me to do this without providing me compensation for gas. Anyone familiar with the legalities of this kind of thing?

US mean vs median wage chart

https://www.ssa.gov/oact/cola/central.html One of the favorite arguments of our fellow moderate democrats arguing that the US really isn't that bad for lower income people compared to say France or Germany is to often cite GDP per capita alongside lower tax rates to somehow explain that despite lacking any sort of reasonable safety net Americans enjoy a much larger income and therefore comparable QoL(insert agency/ur poor cuz u dun spend ur money right!!). Well here you go the bottom 50 percent makes approx 34k/20$ per hour or less. I remember even some pundits like Matthew Iglesias arguing as much, which is shameful since mean vs median is like 5th to 7th grader statistics. Follow source for convenient cost of living calculator to argue with your boomer parents and grandparents on how they are statistically wrong about just everything. Source: Mark Blyth (@MkBlyth) Tweeted: Here's a fun table I came across. It's the…

I want to leave my job after 2 and a half months. Am I being unreasonable?

I own my own business and I really enjoy it as my main job. I make 200-300 hundred dollars a day. I also try to work part time evening/night jobs so I always have experience if shit hits the fan on top of my business. I work 60 hours a week. My previous part time job was in retail. I loved my boss, my coworkers, and the work was low pressure. I was there for 4 years but then left due to conflict of interest. I then got a part time third shift job working at a gas station. The work is fine, as it’s located in a very safe neighborhood. I like the morning customers and I like that im left alone for most of the night. It’s pretty chill until my boss comes in for the last 30 min of my shift. My boss is a total bitch.…

I reached out to a company after an interview, this was the response

Thank you for getting in touch. We met with a high number of candidates who were able to effectively show team work, clear communication and a strong customer service mindset throughout their 1:1 and group activity. At (redacted) we strive to put the customer at the centre of everything that we do, we look for answers in these sessions that centre around team work and going above and beyond for the customer in front of you and are aligned to our values. Using the STAR framework (Situation, Task, Action, Response) is also a really effective way to share examples of supporting your team and going above and beyond for a customer during an interview. Thank you again for the time that went into your application, and we wish you all the best for the future. (Oh and this is a minimum wage job btw)
