At least 5 times every 10 minutes, my boss calls my name over the cubes and says every single update in his day. I’m a programmer, so every single time he does this, he ruins my flow. I just wish I could dial in and listen to music, and not have a middle manager ask me what I’m up to every 2 seconds. It really makes me happy when he doesn’t come to work and I can actually get things done.
Please help me feel less guilty
I left teaching in May to become my husband's primary caregiver. I decided to get a part-time job to help pay for my health insurance. The job is great and I like what I do but they hired me at minimum wage. I have a degree in education and 15+ years working with adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. I thought, given that all my skills apply to the job that I could negotiate a raise once I got hired. Well, I did get a raise but only because they raised the minimum wage by 87 cents. So I got a 87 cent raise. So now I'm looking for a new job because despite my boss being a great guy and often praising the work I do, it doesn't pay the fucking bills. But I feel guilty for looking and I'm struggling with how to tell him.
Hmm. I don't see “I'm just too damn lazy to be bothered.” on this survey /s https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2022/03/09/majority-of-workers-who-quit-a-job-in-2021-cite-low-pay-no-opportunities-for-advancement-feeling-disrespected/ft2022-03-09_greatresignation_01/)
Employees don’t want this!
As if they couldn't be more out of touch with the employees, one of the largest global banks is asking US workers back to the office at least 2 days a week. However, if you were able to get an exemption to the vaccine mandate they enforced, you can continue to stay remote. With the increase is gas prices and traffic only getting worse in my area this feels like a punishment to employees who exceeded during the work from home phase and did the right thing getting vaccinated. Thank you Citi!
If work in the US was strictly about selling services/skills in exchange for money, we would regain some of the much needed ownership over our lives. People could move between companies and positions, take breaks between employment, decide to work part-time, etc. We wouldn't have to rely on the good grace of billionaires and their politicians to offer us limited time off to tend to ourselves and our families. Unfortunately, we are forced to work so that we could afford the healthcare we need to mitigate the stress from being enslaved to our work so that we could afford the healthcare we need to mitigate the stress from being enslaved to our work so that we could afford the healthcare we need………. I'm not sharing anything new that you haven't known before, but I believe this is the primary common issue we need to be organizing around. Do you think…
Work Ethic
Work ethic is used by corporations to trick us into thinking that we are lazy piles of shit if we don’t “go above and beyond” for our job. It’s their way of subjecting you to abuse and then criticizing you for not meeting a ridiculous standard.
