We stand in solitary with all teachers who are being forced to strike. The board of trustees and superintendent continue to fail our students by refusing to provide our educators with a living wage. The special board meeting tonight 3/8 was an insult to our students, teachers, parents and voters. The lack of leadership from the board in understanding the financials, obfuscating comments, and lack of operational understanding are confounding. The negotiations have been open for over 10 months and the community still has to hear from a board members who claim ignorance as to an understanding of what is occurring within the budget. The independent fact finder has affirmed the position of teachers, yet the board and superintend are refusing to entertain the findings. The board and superintend are threatening the community with the worst case scenarios, pink slip notices (not our fault but we may need to), the…
So I work(ed) for a medium sized legal firm as an assistant, working primarily with a lawyer who, for reasons best known to her, took on more cases than usual – maybe she was pressured by the higher ups, I never found out. Either way, she comes to me on a Monday afternoon and asks me to stay an 'hour or so' extra every day that week to help get the workload under control. I said sure, I'm saving for a holiday right now so I could use the overtime pay. Cue a blank stare from Susan. She explained that I wouldn't get overtime pay, as this is work which should be getting done during the regular working day. She pointed out that she was also staying late, but she wasn't getting overtime either. I pointed out that she was making about three times more than me and said that…
So when are we doing a general strike
We’re never going to get a living wage, paid vacation, healthcare, decent paternity and maternity leave by talking about how shitty and despotic life in the US has become. We have to bring our overlords to their knees. GENERAL STRIKE NOW!
Ok, I work as a float at commercial printing factory in wisconsin. Been working there since last August, in all honesty it wasn't a bad job, just boring as can be. Lot of the work has me doing the same stuff for hours on end, and the mindless work causes me anxiety over time. So I wear one of my earpods to listen to audio books to make the time more bearable. Note that the company doesn't allow them on the floor for safety reasons. Mainly that if I have it in I won't hear emergencies over the pa system or if someone next to me is trying to get my attention. When I told my manager on the 2 occasions they talked to me about it I've told them that I use it for my anxiety, was told I should get one of those stress squeeze things the first…
When gas cost too much what will you do?
I’m wondering what will people do when the gas prices are just so high to drive to work everyday. Demand you wfh? The great resignation part 2 and collect unemployment and hope gas prices go down? What’s your plan? Carpool?! Buy an electric car and charge at work?
I turned down a job
I recently resigned from a middle management position and decided to take this week to find a job I really wanted to do. A recruiter contacted me and really sold this company about 20 minutes away from my place. The first half of the interview with two managers went perfect. I was excited. They let me walk around with a supervisor and another manager who has worked there for many years and they gave me a completely different outlook than what I had been told before, all the way down to pay, hours and even days I’m required to work. When I later presented this information to the original interviewers, they tried to make me feel like I was the one misunderstanding. They hinted that they were very pleased with the interview. I contacted the recruiter right after and told her I would not accept an offer if I were…
I've thought for years about how less and less the nature of politics includes the need for geographical connection or association. People are becoming more insular and yet their reach is wider socially. We're all finding pockets of people, like this one, too connect with and voice our opinion. The idea of a country and its inherit nationality is diminishing and losing relevance – we connect with or engage in interests with people of all walks of life on a daily basis. Politics will move towards having more importance with your online community than in where you physically reside, because our physical connections are getting less important. Preamble over, I am feeling energized on this movement for so many reasons and I would like to see something happen. 1] I tendered my resignation today, giving several months notice due to my line of work, but still just as jazzed. The…
Was that a threat so I couldn’t resign?
I'm currently employed at a bank here in the Philippines but I already expressed my intent to resign. I submitted my resignation last February 14 with a 30-day notice, thus completing the 30-day notice period on March 16. My supervisor already signed and acknowledged my resignation letter and I am about to prepare the necessary documents/clearance for me to properly quit my job. By the way, I've also been accepted at a different job which I will be starting on March 21. The thing now is, I got to talk to my supervisor and she said she can't proceed with my resignation since I haven't turned over my tasks/responsibilities. I couldn't do the turn over since they haven't assigned anyone to replace me. She insisted that I extend my resignation on the 31st which makes it a conflict to my soon-to-be job. My question now is, what should I do?…
