Watched my assistant manager walk out. I pretended not to notice.

Like the title says. I work for Jimmy Johns. Its a shit job with shit pay and we deal with a migraine-inducing level of disrespect and stupidity from customers on a daily basis. Couple that with the extremely OCD General Manager with a penchant for micromanaging, and his own ability to victimize himself in every situation, (for real, if you have a complaint about anything, the conversation always devolves into how bad HIS life is) you have a recipie for an extremely stressful work environment. So we ended up completely slammed with business during lunch today, and the customers were extra relentless and rude. Orders ended up incredibly backed up, meanwhile the order-ticket machine just keeps spitting out online orders, which causes the GM to freak out and start getting aggressive and angry. Well, in the midst of everything, i went to the back of the store to grab some…

Had a Zoom Interview with the person who would be my future sales manager, and he seemed super stressed and overworked. Tells me, honestly, that the job’s a grind and people drop out all the time because there are too many expectations regarding daily, weekly, monthly activities/goals.

It pays quite well, but not as much as other potential jobs in this field. Why would I want to work for him? He, was a nice enough guy, but he literally looked like he was on the verge of a heart attack or panic attack. He's been on the job for less than a year and he looks defeated. And he's around 30-35 years old and should be in the prime of his life. Is any pay worth that amount of stress? Were humans made to experience these levels of stress, each day, just to have a home and food? Also, if, by his own admission, the requirements of the job are too stressful for everyone, why not just reduce the requirments of the job, and let people breathe a little bit?

Toilet for one

This happened yesterday, i was driving and felt the need to urinate, no gas station nor public toilets in sight, i stopped at a detail shop and asked a guy about the toilets, he told me there's only one in the back which might be occupied, the rest are out of service. Went to the back, the toilet looked worse than even your average gas station one (depends on where you live of course), there's even a “please don't urinate on the wall” written right next to the toilet, it was a scene straight out a movie, i thought to myself i wonder why this happens in the first place. The shop is packed with fancy cars and i counted more than 15 workers at that place, i bet the shop makes 5 figures daily in revenue, yet the employer decides not so spend a fraction of that on his…

My 50 cent raise for 5 years

My worthless union steward and union rep up until our contract negotiation told us at our satellite office and our main Seattle office that they were going for a $4.00-$5.00 an hour raise for the next 3 years. Well, voting day comes and what happens…me and my coworkers at our satellite office never got to look at the contract with us participating in the vote over Zoom and the drivers at the Teamsters office in Tukwila see everything and they vote all in favor of a $5.00 increase, then they tell us we will be getting in our satellite location a 50 cent increase. We didn't even get to vote as the link they sent to us arrived two hours AFTER the meeting, and was time sensitive so after 10 minutes, the link disappeared. And the union rep tried to play me and my three coworkers for idiots saying “oh…

Seems like tomorrow is my last day. I thought I was pretty good at this too.

I’ve been making my boss think interviewees were leaving because of her tardiness.

Bartender here. So my boss seems to think punctuality is a requirement of everyone but herself. Whenever we have interviews lined up she tells me to make note of anyone who shows up late. (I don’t because I literally don’t care) Usually she is in the back office or hasn’t even arrived yet and she just calls to tell me what times the interviews are for. I’ve noticed however, that more often than not SHE is the one who is late. The hypocrisy just really gets to me. The last straw for me was when one guy waited almost 40 mins for her to finally show up, make herself coffee, talk to the chef about something that absolutely could have waited, chatted for 10 mins with a customer/acquaintance, before FINALLY sitting down to conduct the interview. He did not accept the job when she contacted him to start training. shocking…

Do you feel that your job is pointless?

If you answered yes, or paused for a while to genuinely think about it, you should probably read “Bullshit Jobs: A Theory” by David Graeber.

I’m tired of being called a resource.

That's it. I get it, you allocate time and money (i.e. company resources) as a manager. But don't call your employees “resources”, and especially don't say “any resource taking leave in March will have to liaise with their manager”. Fucking HR and the sass they are giving us. As if using the word “employee” was too much for them, and they strip us of any dignity they can.

Thank You Antiwork!

Earlier today I was out shopping at a Kroger store that was union. I needed help finding some frozen fruit and they had reorganized the store. I approached a young lady and first asked if she was on the clock. She said yes and then asked me why I wanted to know. I asked for her assistance in finding the frozen fruit and thanked her. I saw her next at the cash register and explained that break time and time off the clock is your time and I should not take it from you.
