If you didn’t know, today is International Women’s day. I found out last month, a man who is doing the same job as me is getting paid £6k more a year and he has been here less time. Today they sent an email about “break the bias”. Is today the perfect time to bring up that I’m getting paid less and their email is a load of bullshit?
FMLA in USA is a joke
I cannot believe that this country (USA) does not have better policies for maternity leave. First it is unpaid… seriously. I will take care of my child and tell the bank to wait for mortgage payments because I am not getting paid. Second, to even qualify for FMLA, we have to work at a company for 12 months! Pregnancy is only 9 months, so if you get pregnant in the first 2 months, good luck. This is to protect companies who are making record profits. I work hard, I went to college, I pay my taxes. My company is full of people with MS and PhDs, but their policies are “according to the law”. WE MUST ASK FOR MORE! I am so mad at every useless senator who thinks paid parental leave is not necessary. And so mad at Biden for not using Executive power… How am I going to…
Though they appear to be total opposites, they are two different reactions to the same problem. The trickle down economics of the last 40 years which have resulted in the wealthy and corporations capturing more and more of the wealth of this country. This has caused people to be come economically insecure, looking at a future where things that were formerly taken for granted such as owning a home or retirement, are now unattainable. The biggest nightmare of the oligarchs is that people will finally realize this, overcome their differences, and turn against them.
If you can’t beat ’em…
HR Professional here. I had completely left an HR Specialist position at a non-profit company after realizing that employee advocacy was not what they actually wanted; what they did want was someone who would saber rattle for them when they wanted unfair policy applied. It made me sick. It made no sense in an industry with such a high turnover rate. Having to try and justify punitive actions against employees being paid minimum wage who couldn't afford car repairs or afford childcare began to wear on me. Having started as a line staff just like these employees, I cringed every time a manager came to be ready to bitch about their staff for something that was run-of-the-mill and wanting them to pay a price for life events. I went rounds with the management, I pushed back on every unjust termination or disciplinary action, stressing retraining and intermittent agreements everywhere. It…
I mean just look at it. Does a non profit ceo really need tobe making close to 1 mill a year when its employeees make only $15?
Where I live we have a union factory that is owned by Eaton. The factory is on strike and Eaton is attempting to hire scabs. Need everyone's assistance in flooding their human resources and force them back to the table. https://jobs.eaton.com/jobs/117502?lang=en-us&previousLocale=en-US
I don't know where else I should ask but I trust the people on this sub. so because I applied for the apartment yesterday they're gonna start conducting their background check, and when it comes time to verify my employment, obviously they won't be able to. not an awesome look to a prospective renter. wish I applied like 3 days ago but ce la vie I fucking guess I was gonna apply for unemployment as soon as I walked out of the building but then I thought, that would come back on my background check too right? this sucks lol i've never been fired but I just need someone to tell me what to do first. thanks anybody
