Food and restaurant jobs are the worst. Let me explain. I had my first job when I was 18. I worked at Taco Casa. Many of you don’t know but I have autism and a couple other things. I was so happy to get the job but that changed very fast. First day I was already struggling due to heat and not having water with me at all times. When you are working in a environment with open ovens and cookers it’s going to be hot. I would have been ok if I had easier access to hydration. The manager didn’t put up the fans until I started to lose consciousness for the second time. I was fainting because of dehydration and heat. I have Chronic dehydration. I need water constantly. The only way to drink water on the job was to drop everything and take of your gloves and…
My current work situation is a little odd. I'm a mobile plant operator and I've taken on some questionable employment before but when my current boss took me on it raised a few red flags with me. To start with I wasn't notified of much regarding my employment before I started and only knew I'd be working on mobile plant like front end loaders/ excavators and trucks but had no idea of the pay rate/ employment conditions or even when I was supposed to get paid. Fast forward 4 months and of the 3 other guys I work with 2 of them were put through this odd set up as well. We didn't even have employment contracts when we started and weren't getting overtime/ penalty rates or public holiday rates (wish I'd known before I worked 5 of them in a row when I could have spent the time with…
I work at a hotel and recent got bumped up $1.50/hr and was curious so I looked up my job title in California and they pay the same, some places 50¢ more, some actually 50¢ less. I live in a VERY low cost low population place where what I make is barely livable wage. How tf are employers in Cali allowed to get away with paying people there the same rate when cost of living there is 5-10x more than where in at???
Wont Let Me Burn My Earned Paid Time
A little back story, I've been with this company for almost 3 years. Not once have I gotten a raise. I've gotten high marks on all my performance reviews, but since “it's not in the budget” I haven't gotten a raise. I rarely took any days off the last 3 years, rarely called in, and have accumulated a total of over 150hrs of comp time, sick time, and admin time for me to use freely. They're only paying me out my vacation. The rest of the 150hrs I have, I either use it or lose it. For the last 6 months, I've been applying/sending out resumes to get a higher paying postition. I finally landed a new position. I submitted my 2 weeks notice and decided to burn my earned time. I got a call telling me “I'm not allowed” to use my time and wanted me back in the…
Used to work in “the industry” back during The Entourage days and what you saw on the show was 100% true when it came to the way Ari would treat his assistant. Except the problem was everyone then began to think they were Ari. Even if they were a complete nobody – like my bosses. First boss was in film finance – worked for him as an assistant. Second boss was a talent agent – worked for him as an assistant too. I’m actually surprised I haven’t seen more of these stories / experiences. Some fun memories of dealing with these idiots: Boss 1: Had to help him box up and move everything in his house to another place across town. The hard part was his cats. When they were in their crate they decided to take a gigantic watery shit everywhere, which I was responsible for cleaning up. At…
