Language to help recruiters and companies understand what we want for our future of work

Quitting on Wednesday

After 6 years as a soulsucking banker pawn, I am quitting my job on Wednesday. Best part is I have no new job lined up. Radical idea: how about living life without a 9-5 job

Why is the question always “why should we hire you?”

And not “Why should I work for you?”

Am I being paid legally?

I’m a long time lurker, but I’m in need of some legal advice regarding labor laws. I work in a shop that serves beverages in Illinois as it’s “manager”. I set hours, oversee employees, and work in the store alongside them. I usually work 60+ hour weeks with no days off for multiple weeks in a row. The owners have said that I am “salaried” for a certain amount each week, but they change the amount they pay me based on hours worked (e.g. 40 hours = 600, 50 hours = 800, etc.). Under Illinois law, this qualifies me as an hourly employee. Are they allowed to change my base hourly pay each week so that the “salaried” amount is equivalent to the hourly rate with overtime included?

My mother just got fired for not cleaning well enough

She was hired as a receptionist. She was there for a week. If you want a cleaner, hire a fucking cleaner, don't hire a receptionist and then get mad that they aren't cleaning to your standards.
