So the film industry is such a messed up world in so many ways, on every level. I started making moves, my family is even helping me tremendously to find a regular job and look for new apartments so I can be back home with them. It's given me this huge clarity. I took a movie job that actually ends right as my lease does and so far, this is the best job I've ever had. It's everything I was looking for sometimes (partly because they all have horror stories and don't want to be that way). It almost makes me hesitate to get out of the industry….almost. The hours are still grueling and should be illegal, and some people are already teetering on the edge of a complete breakdown, but there are some famous people that are amazingly involved and apparently are like down low brilliant business people that…
performance appraisal?
What should the grounds for promotion and salary raise should be? I was asked to fill out my self appraisal and it was full of questions like, “Provide instances where you went above and beyond what was required?”, why would I do that? Why would I go above and beyond what is expected? Why should I have to? Being a competent worker and completing responsibilities to high standards should be enough.
I have been working for a large contractor for about 5 years. Its pretty common to leave this place after a few years because they are known to overwork and underpay their employees. On average we tend to work 10+ hour days (although I have gone as high as 16) and working weekends is not uncommon. The only saving grace we have is our payed time off (PTO) which includes both our sick time and our personal/vacation time. We are given 20 days a year and it rolls over to the next year if we don't use it. In my attempts to leave I've been offered a couple jobs, but each only offer at most 10 days off a year. Thats after working there for at least a year. This got me wondering what is considered a normal amount of PTO in the United States. What do you think is…
Can I do anything about HR being awful?
I’ve had multiple problems with HR and have gotten sent home twice now. The first issue I was complaining about was lack of equal pay. We were short staffed for like a year and they hired the new girl at $13/hr when she should’ve been getting $16 minimum. So they already hate me for rocking the boat and talking about pay. Then I got reported by the same coworker twice for making small comments about not being happy. And me and this coworker have joked and complained together like everyday before, so idk why these instances offended her. The first time I just sighed and said “I don’t want to be here” and got sent home…then yesterday I said the customer service here is ridiculous and I’m gonna start agreeing and empathizing with customers because our company only cares about money. Got a call from HR saying they heard I…
Do you find your work meaningful?
I'm trying to get my first job in IT but I'm doing it simply for the money. I have zero passion for tech. And doing the interviews are mentally exhausting because I have to lie and say I've always loved technology. So do you find your work meaningful?
