In the USA my husband is being let go because his role “no longer exists before taking his upcoming FMLA. He does not have a history of underperformance. Does he have any options?
I was recently fired from my job, and in an attempt to send my final paycheck early, they accidentally made two payments. They attempted to void one of them, but were unable to do so; as a result, they called asking me to return one of the payments either via check or cash to amend their mistake. Am I under any legal obligation to pay them back? Being able to keep this payment would provide me with a bit more security while looking for work again.
So every other week I have to download a massive data table, filter and arrange information to her liking. Rows and rows of account details and links. On top of that charts and summaries. I have been doing this for the past 16 months and months, x2 a month. Takes half of my day! First time I realised nobody was looking at this report was about 7-8 months ago. I checked the “views” on the sheet I prepare and shockingly it was only “1” Meaning not even my manager was not looking at it. So I started adding https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ to some hyperlinks. Started from bottom of the presentation to gradually top, higher and higher in rows. Nada! Not a single comment or feedback! I resigned and quitting next month!
So my boss is your typical LOUDY, ignorant, obnoxious, and straight up piece of shit boss. I’ve known him for years and it amazes me how he failed to make any redeeming quality or any good memory of him. Everyone in my work feels the same way about him. Lately, I realized that I completely dehumanized him. I genuinely don’t care if a nuke dropped on him or if he shat his surprisingly large head on one of his long bathroom breaks. At this point, I only consider him to be an annoying “entity” that reminds me life is not perfect.
Just heard from a coworker that we may be required by the boss soon to learn 3D modeling in our free time with no educational support or training. We are underpaid illustrators already spending tens of hours each week making technical vector drawings. I made a 200 page book of technical drawings In 77hrs. My arm has possible carpal tunnel and our employer provides no insurance. Now a big client wants 3d models as well and our drawings. Rumor is the boss wants us all to learn this whole other job skill on our free time with no compensation or educational material or standards. If it’s not voluntary and is required for our work how can it be legal for him not to compensate us? We are hourly employees. I’m apoplectic at the blatant disrespect and illegal behavior. I plan to tell the boss I will not work for free…
Am I Being Fired?
Today, I got an email from who is essentially my HR supervisor/job title supervisor. It was an appointment for a half hour in the morning a week from today that said “Performance Check In” with no other information. This immediately put me on edge. I work in a major teaching hospital in an at-will state. I emailed back asking if it was a meeting about performance goals and concerns, or of another nature so I can be prepared with questions and concerns to ensure a productive meeting since I was pretty sure I had never had a performance check in before. He emailed back fairly quickly, but literally all it said was “it's about program goals and challenges”. Which, to me, translates to “our program goals are ones you are not living up to and it's causing a challenge so we're firing you”. Am I right to think I'm going…
When do we get together?
I've come to notice the only way a lot of idiot groups have power in society is they go out and make a ton of noise. When is it our turn? It's getting harder and harder to just wait and try to bring up a topic of unions or how mistreated we are as workers with people. From months now I've had the want that this movement get together in an earth trembling boom. Unignorable. If we want to be heard then we need to be physically together to be heard. We all want the same things here. We want to be paid what we're due for the work that we do. We don't want to shy away from treatments or help because it will break us financially. We don't want to be abused or put in danger for someone else's profit. I'll be the first to admit that I…
I’m calling in tomorrow.
So a few months ago I had some health problems and had to use vacation time because I didn't have enough sick time. Well last month I went on vacation, and before I requested it I spoke with HR about using some sick time and some vacation since I had used vacation for when I was out sick. She said it was fine, I reminded her before I left when the pay period opened, and again when I got back, before the pay period ended. Well I got my check, and they didn't put any sick time on it at all, check was short a few hundred $$. I could probably get them to cut me a check to make it right, but I don't need the money like that, so I'm calling in tomorrow, since I've got some extra sick time now.
Covid on Business Trip
I have a friend who caught Covid (from coworkers) while on a business trip. Now the company is making them drive back ~10 hours since they can't fly with Covid. I think it's ridiculous and negligent on the side of the company, but apparently the company is pressuring them to drive back and making it hard to get reimbursed for any expenses. Is there any thing my friend can do (assuming they don't want to get fired) or are they just going to have to drive back with Covid?
