Company closing

So if you view my last posts in here. I have dealt with my boss trying to force me to go to a life coach become his perfect employee. As well as training someone to do my entire job under the promise of a .75 cent raise. Now after packing the bulk of our product alone. My boss has come to me to say in a couple months his partners will be “absorbing” the company and I will have to interview with them to become a manager for them. I asked if it was guaranteed an the interview was a formality or if there is a chance I will be jobless. He said in his opinion it is guaranteed but it could go the other way. So it is not guaranteed asshole. Also the company absorbing us does not pay even its management over 15 an hour. He also threw…

I need your opinions

I'm a recent addition to the sub, thanks for having me. My story is a bit convoluted so stick with it as I need your opinion on if I should apply for the exact same position I was gunning for a year ago at my old employer. So, 4 years ago I accepted a position that had a “verbal agreement” attached “guaranteeing” me a certain rate increase and certain position title if I was able to grow the department enough underneath me to justify it. 2 years ago, it happens! Low and behold, the title and pay guarantees have changed and the position is given to someone else, now my new boss. This person and I do not get along from the get go, leading me to talk directly with the CEO about the promises made when I first started and why they were not met. He directs me to…

Snow days in desert

I live in a desert. Which had me thinking that we never get snow days which could correlate to working more. You know how when there is a blizzard, tornado, or other weather advisory they recommend people stay home which means a day with the family and time alone. Where I live they give heat advisory but everything stays the same. No one stays home and people still hike surrounding mountains which causes a lot of fatalities. Lol. I think it would be cool if we had the option to stay home during heat advisory days. xD

Have you made the move?

Have you made the move from a well-paid career with horrible and disrecpetful bosses to working for nice people with less pay? How did it turn out?

Company threatening to hold me back due to my hairstyle.

I’m a mid-20’s M working in a financial institution. I’m getting married at the end of this year, and I have decided to start growing my hair out longer. My fiancé is very supportive of this, and she has expressed her liking for my new style. I wash my hair several times a week, and typically style it on a daily basis. Occasionally, I will wear my hair up in a small bun to keep it out of my face while working. I work in a cubicle setting and have little to no interaction with more than 10 people a day within the organization. I do my work, and have shown the ability to do my job exceptionally well. However, someone in my upper management talked to my boss and basically told them that I will not progress in the company if I keep my hairstyle as it is. I’ve…

Suggestions for being petty about RTO

So, I'm one of the most vocal employees that supports remote work. I have never worked in the office since I was hired remotely. I was put on the spot in a meeting yesterday and was selected to LEAD the “Engagement Committee”, specifically surrounding RTO and getting people to come back to the office. I don't even plan to go to the office myself, which is part of why I think they chose me. So how can I make this work for me and everyone else who thinks RTO is pointless? My first thought was to spend the first meeting highlighting why working from home is a good idea and the successes we've experienced while working from home. I've also thought about creating events that are just an excuse to not work for a few hours, not something where people just drop by and go back to their desks. I…

It may now be viable for companies to make money from letting their employees work for good causes – is this the way we can finally make jobs more meaningful.

Conventional wisdom would say letting employees work for charities and good causes is a massive resource drain, but that has been dramatically changed by remote work. It's now viable to fit blocks of 'micro-volunteering' into normal day-to-day schedules without leaving your desk. More importantly, there there are increasingly common business activities that: A: Can be replaced with impact alternatives with relative ease B: Where the impactful alternative would actually provide superior value For business activities that meet the above criteria, there isn't even a time-cost to volunteering, because it's time that would have been spent on the activity anyway! The two most obvious examples are: Replace traditional L&D activities (i.e. useless seminars/workshops) with real-world (remote) training where employees solve real problems for real non-profits. Replace the fictional case studies and tests in the hiring process with real-world (remote) equivalents that allow candidates to solve real problems for non-profits. I have…

Boss is harassing me to come back to work after my accident

Got into a moderate fender bender witch flaired up my back injury. The work week started on wensday but my doc told me to take the week off. Now this week it's really busy (working in a kitchen) and instead of checking on me he is asking if I'm coming in today..

It’s not enough to just simply “not mind” your job.

They want us to LOVE working. Not because they want us to be happy at our job, but because they want us to overlook that fact that we're being exploited. They want us to love work so that they don't need to make any accomodations on their part to keep us as their employees. I don't mind taking care of my other adult responsibilities: cleaning, errands, etc. I don't LOVE doing them, but I still do them because they're worth doing. It doesn't take much to make a job worth doing.
