Using round numbers for simplicity. My office has 20 days of vacation leave per year. Days that you don't use carry-over to the next year, with a maximum number of accrued dates based on years of service. When you leave the office, you are paid out 100% for the days of accrued leave you have carried over but have not used. Pretty straightforward. So let's say that after 2 years you can carry over 10, after 3 years carryover 15, after 4 years carryover 20, etc. With a maximum of 40 days accrued leave in years 8 and beyond. Management is proposing a change. Accrued leave is being abolished and we would move to an unlimited leave policy with no leave accrual. That is perfectly legal – they can do whatever they want with policies affecting future compensation. This post is not about the change. That policy is bullshit, but…
Quitting job, need advice…
Hello all, need some advice. I am in my current position since November. I moved from Atlanta to Charlotte to take this position. After 10 weeks my employer took my GM position and demoted me to Director of ** essentially overseeing production in the construction business. This came after adding a Sr VP position that is overseeing the branch. I feel like it was a little bait and switch. I had no write ups or warnings. I believe that they are positioning themselves to be acquired and wanted to have somebody with a better pedigree as a leader. This also came with a salary change from 125k to 80k. This takes me back 10 years salary wise and the new position does not challenge me. So with that in mind, including a toxic culture and poor leadership, I will be getting a new job. I have 2 good interviews tomorrow.…
I'm sick and tired of working for this damn corporation, and I need to promote my side hustle so I can work for myself. If I don't get off this damn hamster wheel, I'm going to lose it. I work in digital marketing, and I know I can make it on my own if I freelance. The type of marketing I do will require using Instagram to promote myself. How could I set up an account that won't show up in my peers' feeds as recommended content, so my asshole coworkers don't realize what I am doing? They would absolutely sabotage me breaking out on my own. I know I need to create a new email address and use a Google Voice or other number to set up the account. And change privacy settings so it isn't shown as a recommended profile. What else can I do to protect myself?
My girlfriend works at a factory making rat cages, she's been there a couple months,12 hour shifts from Friday Saturday Sunday, she just got off the phone with a lady from her work saying there isn't much for them to do this weekend and that she should take her 4 hours of accrued pto and not come in this weekend. My gf stated that she needs the money and needs to work. This isn't a seasonal or temp job she was hired directly by the company. My gf was smart enough to keep her foot in the door one day at week at her previous job of 9 years but she makes more money and works only 3 days out of the week so just curious about laws and how to navigate labor laws because there's a number of things going on in this company that are just very bizarre,…
Immigrant rehired, wages severely cut
I live in Iceland, and i have a friend that has worked at a restaurant for four years. The restaurant closed last year temporarily and just opened up again. Apparently her contract was up last november so they sent her an email asking if they could hire her again, only now for way less money. Shes the only staff member who can handle being alone on shifts, other shifts have two people. Shes never asked for pay raise. She has loyal customers. This is an insult. Shes an immigrant from the philippines so we strongly suspect that plays into the fact they think shell just say yes, amen and take the job back. She sent them an email stating the above mentioned things and they answered with a sliggghhhtly higher offer which is just… What can she say? Im trying to write an answer for her
Hello everyone! First of all, I apologize for my poor grammar. English isn't my first language, but I'll try my best. I also acknowledge that Brazil isn't a prime example of a prosperous nation, but it's what I can offer. Lastly, the existence of laws alone does not mean that these rights are universally respected, but it is a valuable first step I've been reading countless disheartening accounts in this sub about how workers are treated in the US, and how little rights they have, so I thought I should tell you about how things work here in Brazil. If even we can have basic rights, I believe it is more than possible to achieve the same level of legal protection in the US For starters, the following rights are enshrined in our Constitution: racism is a non-bailable crime, which includes race discrimination in the workplace (art. 5, XLII) salary…
My girlfriend just started working at a bakery. She's young, with no experience and needs some money to pay for her studies. She chose to take this job because she only works two days a week and that allows her to follow classes and study in the meantime. That information was clear from the beginning, she's a student and needs to go to class. The boss seemed super cool with that and said that they could decide every week which two days were most convenient for both, which seemed amazing (and maybe too good to be true), because then my girlfriend thought she could go to work on the days she had no class. It also meant, technically, that she could have the weekend off if needed. She just had to work two other days out of the week. Of course that would have been a rare occurrence, but we…
