Went to try out a job yesterday at a warehouse, simple shipping and receiving job. The manager was this twitchy 40 something year old foreign guy. I could barely understand him but I tried my hardest to be polite and just do whatever he told me. The work itself was not that hard and honestly I probably would have stayed if it was not for this dude. I should have known during the interview process because of all the red flags and weird things he did. One of them including walking into the interview and just slapping down an application and leaving the room for 20 minutes which I thought was kind of weird. When I asked what my day to day would look like he just told me the lunch break hour And seemed mad that I even asked what I’d be doing. During my first day he spent…

Dumb stuff corporate does
I work at Lowes and one of my coworkers was looking for the cheat sheet of all the plywood item numbers on it. We have a Rolodex of all the items for building materials and stuff from outside lawn and garden. I finally found the sheet and made a copy for her. Then I was stopped by one of the supervisors and she asked me where I got that sheet like it was some kind of demonic pamphlet. The paper had to be shredded. I told her I thought it was dumb to have to look through something that had 50+ pages instead of the just one that the cashier had to look at. “Item numbers change” was the reason we don't use the single sheet of paper instead. I'm very much done working for people that don't think about more than was big brother CEO man/lady tells them to…
No Raise This Year
Just hit my four year with the Fortune 500 company I work for and due to below average performance last year, I was told I would receive NO salary increase from last year. I’ve already been looking for a new job. I knew it was going to happen, but how can you justify that as a company?
First time, got pulled into a meeting after a few other colleagues had theirs. No idea what the outcome or reason was for theirs obviously but it seems to indicate the same thing. I got put into a Performance Improvement Process because my sales numbers aren’t hitting targets. I’ve been here over 2 years (U.K) so I’m pretty safe. I just told them straight: “My observations have shown that I am following the correct attitudes set out in our policy and then I am asking all the right questions in the right way, if you want me to improve you are going to have take responsibility and show me how”. We had a laugh and they said “my game was good” (the language I used in the meeting to show them I’m not a push over) but I know what this step really means. And I’m worried I haven’t protected…
The weather’s nice. I’m leaving.
Everyone else, have a good day. Oh yea just decided. Taking Thursday afternoon and Friday off as well. Time sheet will still reflect 50 billable hours.
I work in construction in Australia. I took on a relatively large project for my old company of which they have never done before. Due to covid, staffing and support were slashed, below what any prior projects of even close to size had. Resources that were promised to be designated to the project at my commencement meeting. Over the six years, hours were increasing more and more. Covering tasks held by others, more and more. Quality of contractors slowly ever decreasing, again further increasing workload and job requirements. I've been transiting over 2.5 hours (and up to 3.5 hours) a day for over 7 months. The project previous was 4.5 hours a day. I've found a company whom have an enormous presence in the industry willing to pay me another 25%, with a full site team, not 20 minutes from home. To say I have been sitting atop the knifes…
Obligatory I'm on mobile so excuse any format errors. It was the summer between my sophomore and junior years of highschool. I was ready. I was excited to start working and make my own money. At the ripe age of 16 I applied to everywhere a 16 year old could, movie theaters, icecream shops, and Boston Market… I was so excited that I accepted the first job that called, Boston Market, and at a whole 10 cents over minimum wage! A total score! Right? Or so I thought. I was given an apron and was told to get to work. No training at all, but that's just how it goes I guess, you learn while you work. Cutting to the point, the GM would sit in his office and watch the cameras, then come out wagging his finger at everyone yelling. Then repeat. If it wasn't busy, I was told…
I joined a company about a year ago and was quickly promoted to the head of the department. I noticed religious based nepotism super quickly, petty people promoted to the level of incompetence, and general disregard for the lower level workers. I fought tooth and nail on a daily basis for those workers to be paid appropriately and be treated better by other managers. I was also promised a significant raise after a performance review and that never happened. Today was the final straw: the other managers (especially one boomer) went full boomer with that whole “People get their taxes back and quit working” pile of crap. That was it. I was done. My last day was supposed to be Friday and I could not take another second. I quickly finished training my replacement (I will help them out if they need help) and sent in a scathing “I quit…
