fucking ridiculous. told her if I have to cancel my appointment then I’m gonna need to be reimbursed for the cancellation fee so she’s gonna let me leave, but damn I will be remembering this next time she calls me on a saturday night in need of coverage
The corporate trolley problem
4 years I Worked for a popular discount store that post jobs for a 16 hour contract but you go in at 5-6am till 10am to get delivery out but because were so understaffed we are forced to stay till its done with threats of disciplinary actions they say “its for the needs of the business”. when i argue this and bring up how they are blackmailing us i get hushed and sent to the office for a talk. They hire people and when they realise this is how it is they quit, I cant even tell you how many people they have gone through. And this is all 20p above minimum wage they are so proud of that.
This has been my journey so far with a particular would-be employer: Submit resume and cover letter. Asked to complete a technical scenario. (So I assume they liked what they saw?) Scenario successful? Go through first interview. Interview was successful; asked to complete another technical scenario. Technical scenario successful; now asked to do yet another interview. I feel as though this much vetting isn't necessary for a 25-30k salary position. Normally I wouldn't mind a second interview, but the technical scenarios they've asked should already show I'm capable of performing the necessary tasks. Just feels redundant by this point.
We should do this with every yacht
And I'm now looking at what out there because I (24, UK) don't want to be doing this for the rest of my life. Looking for tips on job searching whilst employed and avoiding red flags so I don't get into a role I can't grow in again.
paying to tour a rental is so messed up
i have some of the lowest rent in my area, as far as i can tell—$700. found a house/apartment rental (unclear which it is) for $750 a month, plus $450 down payment and a $30 touring fee? so i have to pay at least $30 and maybe not even get to live there? i know it’s not illegal. it’s just completely, utterly f*cked, and i don’t want to live on this planet anymore
Want a promotion? PSYCH!!!
I work in a specific department at Company X. I love my position, and I'm good at it. Many other people at this company have moved up from my position to a supervisor position, and while I've been asked time and time again, “Why haven't you gone for supervisor?” “When are you going to apply for supervisor?” “You're ready for a supervisor position.” Basically led to believe they really wanted me badly and I was a shoe-in. I have stood my ground, proclaiming that I like the department I'm in. The supervisor position pays a couple bucks more an hour, but it's more stressful. Until now, I've been mostly okay with getting a little less pay in exchange for actually loving my job. Recent times, however, have demanded a higher paycheck for most of us. I'd been considering it for a few months, but I'll only work a morning/day position…
