I got fired from that horrible boss but he banned me from the building that same night and I'm supposed to pick up my check next day does that count as withholding final pay? I'm assuming he's mailing it.
Around Thanksgiving, while having a conversation about home loans and debt to income ratios, a new subordinate in my department let slip their hourly wage. It was pretty infuriating that the rate was one that took me three years to reach, and is only 6% below my current rate. So that means 5 years of knowledge on the specifics of this job role aren't worth much to the company. Spent all of December strategizing how to ask for a raise, but first needed to decide what my value was. Living in a high COL area, decided that it would require a significant amount more than the company will ever be willing to offer. Even in the off chance they will agree to a 45% increase, decided that I also deserve two weeks vacation a year, AND paid holidays. So, nevermind asking for a raise. It's time to get on a…
So I’m a manager
I'm a manager at Noodles & Company, where I have been working for 7 months. I have previous experience in food service & understand how to make customers happy if I screw up. I was just told, by my GM, that “nothing else should be put in this group chat unless it is positive.” What was so negative you ask? Me trying to make the case that if we can't make a customer's order in a reasonable amount of time (i.e. 30 minutes) that we should give them a refund if they request it. Nothing groundbreaking or earth-shattering, but I was met with so much resistance that I'm literally in the bathroom looking at new jobs rn. If you want more details, let me know, but I fucking hate the fact that I can't even try to make us better as a store without facing headlong opposition.
I walked into the store and as I was waiting in the line, I got to the counter and I ask with concern how old the kid is. He said he just turned 12. Now why the fuck do these “family businesses” get to abuse a loophole to let their employee’s children work? It’s fucking disgusting. You have to be a sick parent to take your kid’s childhood away like that. Fuck these family businesses. I told him to have a nice day and I took my business elsewhere. I will not support any business that has literal children there. How about instead of taking advantage of children, you hire adults and give them a living wage?
I immigrated about 10yrs ago and graduated abroad over 15y ago, getting an accounting designation would take me minimum 4yrs (because I graduated over 10y ago I would need to literally go back to university for 4yrs before being able to apply for the exam) so I thought maybe changing career to something in IT? Trades? Any career advice? Something I could learn within 2yrs?
Well I’m getting fired
I made an error for a deadline at my new job that’s going to be hundreds of thousands of dollars. Basically I thought the deadline was Friday when it was Monday. It’s a federal deadline with no prospects for mitigation. I’m waffling between my old-school “yeah I’d fire me too” and things I’m trying to learn “I’m sorry I made a mistake after 6 weeks. It was my first solo mission after very erratic training. I’ve adjusted my notes, revised my wfh hours voluntarily to make sure my training continues and will never make that mistake again. “ There’s literally nothing I can do but learn from it. So why am I sitting home on a Saturday morning freaking out? I don’t even like the work. The company has been surprising for corporate America and the other employees are freaking amazing. The salary increase was 34% as well before benefits…
I can’t offer the same level of work they are accustomed too, and I’ve been leaving early to go and deal with my personal issues. I need help figuring out if I should just quit and live with a friend for a while or if should continue working. For context: I work at a hospital in in the cafeteria area they have me doing two jobs throughout the day which is overwhelming. In it self. I’m going through a breakup recently with someone I was with for 5 years. And I just wrecked my car. And I’m on the verge of losing my house. I’ve been sick on top of all of this. I’ve been working on top of all this and I cut out early today to speak with my ex because she seemed like she wanted to mend things and my boss was pissed. At this point I…
I almost got fired for taking a cookie
I (17) work at a chain restaurant deli as a cook and I would work six hour shifts right after high school. I wouldn’t get home until around 10 pm many nights that I worked and I often didn’t eat or have time for a snack in between lunch time and 10. Anyways, many of my coworkers who were also students would occasionally make sandwiches for themselves and eat them when they were slow. Many times it was out of bread we weren’t gonna use so it was not a big deal in terms of waste. Seeing this I thought to myself that it was okay to grab a snack or a sandwich when I was hungry. There was also baskets of cookies and other sweets in the front of the store for customers to buy, which many employees would grab one and walk out after a closing shift. One…
