So my tips are two weeks behind now. All I did was ask for them, I was told that because the owner isn't there they're not being done, then she said something like “are we happy with that” I paused for a while before she chimed in again with “is that alright” I sighed and said “uh, yeah fine.” Then she had to carry on. Had this little speach about tips being a bonus and shit, then ended it with “are you happy with that?” So I say “look, I'm not kicking up a fuss; but no, I'm not happy about it. So she says “are you serious right now!?” So I said we're talking about my money here, im finding out last minute and she interrupts telling me that i was told on the group chat (have checked since. I wasn't. ) and goes on about how good of…
A good reply?
Just wanted to get peoples thoughts and opinions. I’ve been working from home since august 2020 due to coronavirus and as of the 1st of March we are being forced to return to work full time over a 3 week period. A lot of people aren’t happy with this as they have become accustomed to the freedom that comes with WFH. Making work life balance so much easier as well as caring for children and loved ones. I supposed like most people I’m anxious about returning to the office, while working from home I was able to get healthy, mentally and physically through an exercise regime and not being tempted to eat bad foods. I was able to reduce my work time significantly because I could get everything done and didn’t mind staying back 30 mins as there was no commute. Has anyone successfully returned to the workplace? Has their…
How am I supposed to feel?
So I've worked in this (chain) restaurant for just over four years, although I do leave every summer but it suits them too so we (should) are all good. I've seen them open 8 restaurants since I started with them, before they only had 2. I have the most experience, great soft skills for the job, the mind of a boss (grew up in a restaurant, I know all the is and outs)… bla bla bla I don't want to bore anyway so I'll try be quick. I've seen the most useless waiters be promoted to manager over these fours years, you have no idea. I never got offered any promotion, despite everyone always recognising my work as stellar. It's likely because I “argue with them”.. aka, I demand to work the hours I'm on contract, not 16 extra. aka, I moan about them not paying nightly rates (I finish…
I was working at a well known tech company in Oregon. I had moved into my car to save money and get out of the rent trap and after about 4 months of car living the pandemic hit. Everything shutdown and I had no resources and a friend/coworker offered to let me move in with him. We worked at the same company as software engineers but we lived completely different lifestyles. The man is an extreme diehard workaholic. He works 8am to 5pm. However, he starts work an hour early around 7am and works until about 11pm. We work from our computers but he never leaves the office. He is 6’3 and weighs about 145lbs. Only takes short breaks to come out of his room to use the bathroom and MAYBE make something to eat. At its worst he admitted that he literally waits until he’s about to soil himself…
I've been trying to find a new job, but every single one involves work on the weekends or it goes over 40 hours. I just want a 9-5, normal job or something remote (if I can find one) to pay my bills. That's it. Why is it so hard?! And then everything wants 5+ years of experience, so I get denied for everything. Sometimes it feels like the normal work week is just a lie and no one ever works that unless you're like a lawyer or something, even they work all the time on the weekends.
I made a big mistake going into sales lol its always 'sell warranties, we're down' and 'make sure you pressure them to sell warranties' and warranties this and that and so much pressure to be perfect and to sell stuff because 'team! we're below a certain percentage!' meanwhile they dont realize how bad of a boss they are by literally pressuring and improperly teaching. since they entered SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE QUIT and another one of my coworkers just quit due to stress. I told them i wanted to transfer to a different department but for some reason they insisted i stay when this isnt my strong suit, then get mad when i forget steps. im tired of bosses who are like this
Helpful reminder any overwhelming sense of powerlessness
edit: Apologies for the aneurysm of a title, autocorrect got me good …and she doesn’t realize how much I support her. Call center manager and recently did yearly reviews with the team. Company gave merit increases of less than 4%. This one agent did the math and realized the raise would be less than .70 cents. So she submitted a letter asking for $2 more or she would be going to a competitor. When I saw it I immediately thought of this sub and thought props to her. I didn’t have power to approve but did kick it up to my cheap ass boss who I knew would say let her walk. So she did. We had 5 reqs opened last week for new positions and have lost 4 ppl since that req was opened. I’d say its worth paying the $2 more an hour to keep an experienced agent…
