I just overheard a coworker getting laid off. Great worker, always does a good job and works hard. Business slowed down for one week. Immediately the owner lays off the only non-white employee. I shouldn't be surprised because they are freedom convoy donators/supporters. We need to do better.
I went to an unofficial after work, and one of my managers peers became talkative after a few pints. She told me my manager blocked one of our most talented asscociates promotion by saying he had “personal problems” to upper management after they decided to promote him. I'm obviously pissed off, and I don't intend to keep my colleague in the dark about why his oppurtunities to advance suddenly disappeared. I am in a very fortunate position myself, and I'm going to have to screw up hard at the moment to not surpass my manager within a year or so. So there is a strong likelihood that I can push through a promotion for my colleague in a year or so, but I also don't want him to waste more time at a company/with a manager, that is doing harm to his career. Fuming right now…
Paramedic/EMT pay
I kinda (definitely) hate my job and want to do something worthwhile in my community. Just checked on pay for paramedics/EMTs in Chicago. What the fuck are we doing paying these folks ~$50k a year to save lives? Is that pay scale normal? What kind of society puts such a low value on such a stressful and selfless position?

UPS Cuts wages 20% in Philadelphia

Sure, on a small scale it is… but how big is the scale? As big as it was last year? I mean I want to see the entire retail industry flipped over with unions, FULL HEALTHCARE BENEFITS for clerk positions at mega chains, and more I want certain stores (Dollar General and other small box Hellholes) go extinct. So, is it still on? Are people still quitting in mass? or is it like not as big a thing now?
Name removed to protect identity. The terminal set up a table with his picture, flowers, a drop box for monetary donations to the family and a drop box for heartfelt notes to the family. I sat down to write a note but found myself writing something that would be inappropriate for the family to read in their time of grieving. I'll include what I wrote a little further down. The response by management was to ask us drivers for emergency contacts. Why they didn't ask for emergency contacts when were first hired on I don't know, but to me this is just reactionary garbage which I have come to expect from corporate and management. If I explain further I'll just be repeating myself, so here's what I wrote: “[The Deceased] was just another cog for the FedEx machine. He will be replaced with another soon. FedEx Ground doesn't care about…
It’s the small things in life
So today was the last day at my job and when I got home my famly had gotten me a cake and a banner. It just made me see how much I'm missing at a crap job and how much my famly cares about me. Because sometimes I just don't feel it but today I do I really do. So go and find a loved one and give them a hug.
I work for Amazon logistics in the sf Bay Area. One day I asked a manager if I could have the day off and he said yes and that it might show up in the system as missed hours at first and to let him know if it did. It did. But when I came back after my weekend my badge wasn’t opening the door and my account was disabled. They fired me just like that, zero notification. I called hr and called ERC and after two days of explaining my situation to multiple different people I finally got someone to just simply ask the fucking manager and of course he vouched for me. Btw ERC swears up and down they always send a termination letter via email, I don’t delete my emails, there was no termination letter. They said it would take 24-48 hours. Okay. I came in 2…
