I work in EMS and I have have been working for the same company since I got my license. I've been able to do a ton of amazing things and its the first time I've had a job where I can genuinely say I love what I do, however I very suddenly got the shaft from my company. One of the things EMS folks sometimes do is go on deployments in times of need. This can include natural disasters, staffing shortages, or locations of disease outbreaks. These deployments are funded by FEMA. FEMA pays the company, and the company pays the EMTs and Paramedics that are shipped out. They pay good money and are tax free income. Are all managers just useless?
Just started my new bar job part time and the rota is posted on the whatsapp group for the whole week. the manager posted the rota for this week about 5 days ago, and straight away i messaged saying i couldn’t work friday (today), i’d figured since i stated it straight away it wouldn’t be an issue. she posted an updated rota the next day and i was taken off for today – all good so far. then this morning rolls around and they posted the brief for todays work, and i’m on it. i was confused as i clearly wasn’t on the rota and had been removed, but the deputy manager who’s on today said on the internal company system i was still rota’d for today (the manager hadn’t changed it), so he’d really like me to work today. i straight up said i’m sorry but no, i know…

The pay is good and it allows me to have money to spend on my hobbies. But on a deeper level, it isn't that rosy. Despite making good money for where I live, I'd still need to take out a bank loan of at least a decade or more to buy a house. The only reason I have savings is because I'm single and take the company bus to work. I don't care about owning a car, but if I wanted to, I'd not have much left over either. My married colleagues are…
