I have worked my ass off since I was legally able to work. I've managed, ran the bar, ran the kitchen, every position that can be held, I've held it. I interviewed for an established place in my area and they offered me minimum wage but no tips. Why do places keep thinking this is okay? How are we supposed to survive like this?

I work in EMS and I have have been working for the same company since I got my license. I've been able to do a ton of amazing things and its the first time I've had a job where I can genuinely say I love what I do, however I very suddenly got the shaft from my company. One of the things EMS folks sometimes do is go on deployments in times of need. This can include natural disasters, staffing shortages, or locations of disease outbreaks. These deployments are funded by FEMA. FEMA pays the company, and the company pays the EMTs and Paramedics that are shipped out. They pay good money and are tax free income. You pack a bag, and at any time in the coming week or two, you get a call and you have an hour to get to station to ship out. This is how…

Just started my new bar job part time and the rota is posted on the whatsapp group for the whole week. the manager posted the rota for this week about 5 days ago, and straight away i messaged saying i couldn’t work friday (today), i’d figured since i stated it straight away it wouldn’t be an issue. she posted an updated rota the next day and i was taken off for today – all good so far. then this morning rolls around and they posted the brief for todays work, and i’m on it. i was confused as i clearly wasn’t on the rota and had been removed, but the deputy manager who’s on today said on the internal company system i was still rota’d for today (the manager hadn’t changed it), so he’d really like me to work today. i straight up said i’m sorry but no, i know…
